I tried adding some transparency at various percentages. That gave too much transparency. Then I tried using a gray texture as a transparency map, but it never looked right either. I wonder if refraction rather than transparency would be better. I'm just not that familiar with setting up material nodes.
Any question about materials for Poser 11 requires that you also tell us whether you want FireFly or SuperFly.
Although they have some common configurations for basics, they're different systems that handle light in different ways and since you're doing a backlighting "trick" it matters.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Assuming your cloth has a simple shader, you can just add a tiny bit of Transparency (.02) and also add a Diffuse node plugged into Translucence. Set the Translucence color and value just like the Diffuse_Color and Diffuse_Value.

If you want a more extreme, stylized effect, set your stage to black and turn off IDL so that no light can bounce and illuminate the front.

I wanted to share the image I came up with using back-lighting. I followed Bagginsbill's suggestions other than having to use a little more transparency. Gallery Image

I what to create an image with model standing front of a window with her clothing backlit and with a semi-transparent effect. Nothing I have tried looks right. You know the look I am talking about, where the model 's body is stilhouetted through the fabric. I am using Poser 11. Any suggestions on how to get this to look realistic?
