Subject: My fast render settings with iRay in DS

infinity10 ( ) posted Wed, 13 December 2017 at 11:07 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 7:25 PM

I made a slideshow video of my render settings for fast iray rendering in Daz Studio, without too much compromise on imgae quality. I hope this will be helpful in some way. I uploaded the video to my youTube account : https://youtu.be/dURoG9K1qiY

Thanks for your comment. I don't know how to share a render preset. Do I save it or export something ? How to do? Sorry, I am not as proficient in using daz Studio as I am in Poser.

You can save out a 'Render Settings Preset' from 'Save As' and distribute the individual file with instructions to install to the Render Presets folder in the users content library. Render Settings Preset stored here can be used in DS either through the Content Library or the tab - Render settings/Presets/Render - Settings.

@Razor42 - thank you for that tip. I did that.

Everyone: I tried to use the exact same render preset I saved out, on a different test scene -- and it failed to work as intended. I conclude that each scene requires its own render preset. I will therefore not provide a specific render preset because it may lead to misunderstanding of its purpose. My video is nothing more than a guide to show which settings to tweak in order to get a fast render inside Daz Studio4.10 using iRay. I apologise if this is a less than satisfactory decision for some users. Thanks for watching.

I had a quick look at the slideshow and it has some good tips for dealing with the Render settings tab.

It may be that you are trying to include too much in a single preset as things like exposure will vary depending on the amount of light in the scene. Whereas optimisation tends to be more useful across different types of scenes. It may take a bit more time but you can save out specified groups of settings so that the saved preset only effects the more relevant settings for that preset. For example you can just save out a preset which includes the settings for Optimisation and Filtering only and call it something like Preview quality, Medium or High quality depending on the setup. The settings for Tone Mapping and Environment tend to be a lot more scene specific with Tone mapping being pretty close to film and camera settings. So alternatively you could set the Tone map options for things like indoors or outdoors and save a preset that includes the tone mapping and possibly environment settings only.

Thank you for the information. I shall have to tread carefully on this, being new to exporting render settings and what-not.
