Subject: Where is the color map node?

HartyBart ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2020 at 9:09 AM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 9:31 PM

A number of node-setup screenshots for Poser's Material Room show a "Color Map" node in use. Where is this seemingly vital node to be found in Poser? It appears to be missing from Poser 11's various node-choices drop-down menus. Was it taken out in Poser 11? If so, what is the most suitable substitute?

Nodes can be renamed by clicking on the node name so let's assume that's what the creator did. For Poser Root Surface, I assume it would be the Math:Simple_Color node. For the Cycles Root Surface nodes, I take it to be the Cycles:Input:Color node. Needs a bit of right-clicking in the Material Room window.

Not sure what you mean--are you referring to color texture maps aka diffuse maps as they were known in Firefly? . Direct quoted from the manual:

Color texture maps are commonly known as diffuse or diffuse color
maps in non-PBR renderers such as Firefly. In PBR-type renderers
such as SuperFly they are more commonly known as Albedo maps. The
main difference between a diffuse texture and an albedo texture is
that albedo textures contain no baked-in highlights or shadows.
In the PoserSurface node, color maps typically connect to either
the Diffuse_Color or Alternate_Diffuse channel, either directly or
through other material nodes. In the Physical Surface root node, the
Diffuse/Albedo map connects to the Color input.

And yes, all you need to do is doubleclick on the name of the node and you can rename. I dislike this because it confuses end users a lot.

I second that. The script works great.

I'd forgotten about the "Reveal node name" Python script, thanks. Though that doesn't work with old screenshots.

Turns out that "Colour map" is a re-named node commonly used by BagginsBill and a few others node-gods. Underneath it's actually just the good old Image_Map node, with only the image made visible.
