Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 17 12:50 am)
When you render the model, it may not have the desired smoothness. To achieve a smoother appearance, the mesh requires subdivision. However, this is not an option in Poser Pro 2014, and you would need to apply subdivision in a third-party application. Poser versions 11, 12, and 13 offer internal subdivision capabilities.

Are you sure it works also with an imported .OBJ?
Here are two Andy's with Flat Shaded on the Left and Texture Shaded on the Right.
Because i tried but it remain the same, i'm afraid it works only on figures like Andy, Michael, etc., but not imported stuff.
1) Import the OBJ at its base resolution. I'm assuming you want to use that head as a prop, and not a figure. So we'll go with prop.
2) Switch to the PROPERTIES tab.
--- Make sure Smooth Polygons is checked.
--- In the Subdivision settings, it defaults to no subdivisions for Preview and Render. Start with the Preview wetting. Increase the setting until you get the type of result you'd like in the final render. THEN, enter that value in Render subdivisions.
--- Next, cut the Preview setting back down to 1. You just need enough to take the facet look away. The higher you set this, the more taxing it will be on your system.
Try initially setting the Preview to 1. It SHOULD make it smoother. But the preview setting doesn't matter as much as your final render. Plus, setting the Preview subdiv level too high will be taxing your system.
3) Choose Display > Document Style > Texture Shaded. You SHOULD see a nice shaded model now.
Can you confirm that you tried these steps?

No wait, i did nothing on blender, just imported the .OBJ directly on Poser. It's looking to me like whatever you did in Blender resulted in polygons that are not welded. That's why you're getting the holes in the mesh.
I'm not familiar with Blender. Is there a command something like "Weld Identical Vertices" in it? Try that before exporting the OBJ.
If you link me a copy of the model, I'll prep it for Poser. What I'll do: import it into Wings3D, set all edges to hard, add a level of Subdivision; which will increase the poly count and convert to quads without distorting the shapes, set edges back to soft and export back out as obj. Hopefully UVs won't be too distorted, probably not, which might be moot anyway. I'll also weld identical if necessary. I'll link back the new OBJ to here. Just add 1 level of Subdivision when obj is back in Poser.
It should take about 15 minutes total.
If not, at least you have a sort of roadmap for how to fix it.
More than likely. Usually the models are ripped and then converted to XPS in Blender for posing in XNALara Studio. It's a simple matter to chop and extract portions of a model in Blender and export as OBJ, hypothetically, for example, the Dr. Karlov head. Game models are always Tris, a dead give away. There's also a million DS Gen 8 frankensteined game clones out there. Usually the Gen 8 game clones use the Gen 8 figure for the base and convert the ripped asset clothing to fit the model. These things can be found on DA or private patreons, some of pretty good quality and usually cost a few bucks. There's quite a few Poser Generation 3 (v3/m3) Daz game rip hybrids out there too. Usually those are rigged just bare bones, hence horrible bends, few to no morphs, and obvious tri game ripped outfits. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't have a few game rip models in my possession downloaded here and there over the years, more or less out of curiosity. It might be lifted directly from the game.
Example...one of my favorites, Alice; from Alice: Madness Returns. Cleaned up a bit from an XPS downloaded somewhere years ago. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to give it a serviceable Poser rig in very little time for Poser "Fan Art". It would be more expedient to just pose it in XNALara, export as posed OBJ and render it in Poser or wherever.
Hey Primorge, so you were able to have the smooth surface on Poser? how?I took the liberty of doing some snooping, going by the name of the 3d model in the Poser screencap. It's a LOD 1 Dr. Karlov model from Call of Duty, just the head. It appears to be this one, though finding some way to get the actual model eluded efforts...

That's definitely a case of unwelded polygons - seems like every poligon there has its individual vertices, just located in the same place. That is why Poser can't smooth the vertices, as it's not detecting where to smooth (because those vertices are all separated) and why it makes all those individual circles when subdividing - it's subdividing each polygon separately.
)
To fix it in Blender, import the obj, then take it to Edit Mode, select all vertices and go to Mesh > Cleanup > Merge by Distance. The default distance here usually works well.
Then export that and import it in Poser.
Reminder that, if this is a game rip, you can only use it for your personal use.

Hello to everyone,
i have this problem: why if i import an .OBJ model on Poser (Pro 2014) the model looks so with few polygons and squared (left) when the model itself looks smooth and good in terms of quality (right)?
There is something that i don't know?
thank you!
