I knew Poser's communication wasn't great, but this is really limited.
Just one photo to showcase the product.
They're using the same old message about simplicity, which was one of the product's core values.
What I'm asking for is a scene with basic lighting that highlights the product (it might exist, but they're not saying so). And basic shaders too.
All the old content needs to be updated, there need to be tutorials explaining the new features, and at the very least, a manual.
Are we slowly moving towards an annual license, Poser 15 in a year?
At least those who buy it at full price will see the price drop for such a great piece of software.
Advertise it, I love Poser.
So: no new figure, no new scenes, no new shaders, no new clothing for existing flagship figures, dropped cloth room to make a lot of products unusable, two feature updates, one performance update, and this is for 175 as a full price? With almost zero previous marketing and no new renders on the website showing capabilities? No new products for sale associated with the release? No updated products bundled, no tutorials, no new manual?
I love you guys, but WTF? Are you preparing to drop the software?
I'm sad to be so underwhelmed. You guys didn't even take an easy win by adding more memory dots! Something as small as that – a 5x5 grid, for example – would at least have given us something useful and new:
Or maybe adding Light Dots.

IClone/CharacterCreator 5 is the real Poser by now.
Love it or hate it, but this is the reality.
Poser is dead, a zombie.
The last real Poser Version has been Poser Pro 2014/Poser 10
Just compare, what came with the jump from Poser 4 to Poser 5 and later til PP2014.
Firefly, Cloth room, hair room, shadow catcher, morph brush, wight maps, dependency editor and with every release a new figure generation with new content.
Now look, what you get since Poser 11:
Superfly, a Cycles relarted renderer with some upgrades and material adjustments on every version.
That's it.
Well, when I heard about the release of Poser 14, I was immediately curious.
That curiosity has lessened.
But in that moment, I pondered my Poser 12 and Poser 13 on my current main rig. I quietly considered whether or not to upgrade from my Poser 12 or to get a full Poser 14.
But then... well then I learnt more about the software.
I prefer conforming clothing to dynamic but still like using the latter once in a while. I have been using Poser since Poser 6 and still have a decent enough library of dynamics.
I think that in this case, I am not alone. Poser these days, will only really attract older existing Poser users.
Now Poser 14 is not much more than what should have been a patch for Poser 13. A patch would have made sense too, since more development time for the cloth room issue and other things are blatantly needed.
We all have our reasons for getting into Poser or using it in the first place. In my case, it is predominantly fantasy art and portraits that have to do with a history spent with rpgs and crpgs since the 1980s. I have actually grown to like Poser 13 and found it comfortable to work. In some cases where I need to do DAZ conversions, I go to my old PC with Poser 10 and it's range of great scripts. I realise Poser is no longer the leading software and the industry is also much, much further along but I like it. I really do. Poser 13 serves me well.
BUT.... I will be skipping Poser 14.
For my purposes, it is superfluous to requirement. There is little incentive to get it. At least there is little incentive "at this point in time". Bit like getting an undercooked meal in an eatery and kindly pointing out the fact it's still frozen in the middle and will need a few more minutes in the microwave.
Naturally, I fully expect that when I have an issue or a materials question using Poser 13, in future I will get to hear that Poser 14 has a much newer adaptation of Blender's cycles and I wouldn't have that problem. When that happens, I will softly swear at my mug of coffee in front of me and think to myself "fool me, for asking questions", whilst languishing in hazy, misty eyed recollections of the days of RDNA.
I remain interested in Poser and am just as ready to invest as always but for now, it is time to wait.
I agree with all that has been said.
I saw the email about it, and immediately went and purchased the upgrade, without reading the product description (MY bad).
When I create clothing content for Poser, it's always been Dynamic even though Dynamics in Poser haven't been upgraded in the 20+ years since I've been using Poser (sure it's not my main app now, regardless). So when I installed it and loaded it up and started to work on my new La Femme 2 outfit and realized the Cloth Room was removed, I went and read the product description, and my heart sank.
I've since requested/and received a refund.
Removing it outright was a silly move, IMO, even if there are talks and plans for a replacement. Why not leave it **until** a replacement is chosen and implemented? : (

You know the two things that are telling: look at tbe Poser offerings on the marketplace, or Freestuff. Nothing there says Poser 14.
Moreover Poser 14 is * not even a category * when you look at filtering.
In other words, tbe company that released the software has no new content for their brand new version to excite consumers, or provide examples. Nothing.
It is also possible that development resources were limited, leaving them with no real option but to release the software in its current state, without additional new content. This could at least explain why there was little to no advertising for Poser 14, why no new figures were introduced, or why existing ones were not noticeably updated. While there may not have been direct pressure regarding the release itself, there was likely a reason for choosing this approach. So why release at all? Why not just an update to 13? Is someone trying to win a bet or something? Because it makes no sense. Something to do with tariffs? Because everything stupid and cruel revolves around tariffs these days.

According to the release notes, old content received shader updates. That's significant for first-timers, but it is senseless for established users who have already bloated their runtimes with legacy downloads. Unfortunately, there is no efficient, automatic way to clean up, consolidate, and update redundant content.

They're not even advertising it on Renderosity's front page - you have to scroll down to find a blurb to purchase Poser 13.You know the two things that are telling: look at tbe Poser offerings on the marketplace, or Freestuff. Nothing there says Poser 14.

You'd think that, if they really wanted Poser 14 to be successful, there would be a big image advertising Poser 14 as the first thing people would see when they came to the site.

So what is the need for a new figure with the launch of Poser 14? Given that the following figures all launched with Poser and where are they? Poser 5 Judy, Poser 6 Sydney, Poser 7 Alyson, Poser 8-9 Alyson 2, Poser 10 Roxie, Poser 11 Pauline. After that Poser 12, 13, 14 all have La Femme and or La Femme 2, but they were not made to launch with Poser just be a new figure to use with Poser. And since the La Femme's were never part of the official launch of a Poser version they seem to have done fairly well in the market. If any new figure was going to make a dent in the market it should have been Dawn 2. And where is she?

If examining these figures, you will realize they are crap, by modern standards. So what is the need for a new figure with the launch of Poser 14? If examining these figures, you will realize they are crap, by modern standards.I admitt, it is expressed a little bit harsh, but as a matter of fact, the flaws are still a problem.
This is due that they are older and with less experience while creating.
P5 Judy has a chaotic mesh design, because of the mix of quads and triangles. Some verticise on her butt cheeks are merged, by mistake.
Sydney and the other G2 figures share the same mesh and having issues with an asymetrical mesh design.
Poser 5 Judy actually isn't half bad, once you give her a little TLC with the morphbrush.

Yeah, there are some unwelded vertices at their derrière, but this is easily fixed inside a modelling app
But her "oldfashioned" tri/quad mesh features enough built in detail, that there is no subdivision needed. Poser has no problems with tris, but it hates high vertice counts.
Also, she can use V2 textures, so, with the help of a texture converter, she also has access to V3 and V4 textures, too.
So, Judy and Don are actually my most favorite native Poser meshes, only to be surpassed by DAZ' V2 and M2, which give the most "bang for the buck" if you compare polygon count with actual (unsubdivided) mesh detail.
Again, "modern standards" don't apply to Poser. A good Poser figure should first and foremost work great inside Poser.
At this point it feels like Bondware is intentionally destroying Poser. Things we have lost:
• DirectX support for importing/exporting AVI CoDecs since 10/2014 pro
• Poserfusion since Version 11
• Pro version since Version 11
• Queue Manager seats restricted to being useless since Version 13 (3 seats, which means only 2 render nodes and a controller, or 1 render node, 1 controller, and 1 system to work on)
• 3ds and other file type imports gone in Version 14
• Cloth room gone in Version 14
• Countless Plugins relying on Python broken with each update
What else has been removed since version 14? I have heard more was taken away?
Still no particles system, still no nurbs or metaballs for fluid, still no working physics engines, still no micro-poly displacement in Superfly. Volumetrics is still problematic.
Worst of all, we still have this horrible online activation system that requires regular internet connections just to use our software - which is one step removed from a subscription, and nothing but annoying.
Poser is in a sad state of affairs. I will not be supporting Poser 14. Unless Bondware gets its act together and the P15 is an absolute banger, I will not be supporting future Poser releases at all.

Some will note several forces already at play or planned with Poser's development direction:
This is mostly a predictable response to competitive market forces. Still, there are some chicken-egg problems in the where not everyone will be happy as things evolve.

Poser can't become Daz; the gap is too big. It would require an army of creators. Keep it simple, Cycle 2, or, well, a complete version like Blender with micro-poly displacement for Superfly. Okay, Daz doesn't have 3DS, but I have over 1000 3DS objects and I use Poser. I'm dying for someone to defend Poser and show its advantages. No one is currently defending it, or where are the program's creators to defend their creation?
i'm interested in hearing more about the new content creation features please

I completely agree, Tim, and I'm one of them. Thank you for being here and answering my questions, but what I'm really upset about is the tone, the unclear communication that creates expectations that shouldn't exist. And above all, I blame myself for my anger, which prevented me from taking advantage of the opportunity to buy what I was interested in and had planned to buy that day with Poser 14. I'm on a tight budget and I do group purchases, and I'll wait for the next day when everything is 50% off and my anger has subsided.
By the way - I understand some are upset about the cloth room. I didn't notice it was gone until I read the posts here because I don't use it. I've never completed a render with dynamic cloth - I've spent hours working on renders but eventually get fed up and select conforming clothes. With the type of scenes or poses I do there's always a fold or poke though or something that's annoying. And then I make the mistake of fixing something in the scene and discover I was on frame 15 or 30 and not frame 1 - and the whole scene becomes a mess. At a point I just realised I was wasting far too much time with dynamics and made a conscious decision to not use it again. Same reason I haven't bought Poser clothes in years - they're all dynamic.
I use a host of software programs that I pay a yearly license for, and they have not included a single "new" feature that I've actually wanted or used in years. For my work I use technical writing software that is buggy and painful to use - and my work pays a monthly or yearly license fee for the rubbish.
To put the Poser upgrade fee in proportion to the other software - it's not bad. And I get a bit more because I've upgraded from 12 to 14, I got content, and superfly render features that I didn't have. So overall I'm happy.
To those that are so quick to criticise Renderosity - just look at all the other stores that no longer exist because of changing market conditions.

Tim, all of the features I listed that poser does not have were being requested as far back as Poser 6. They were being requested across multiple owners when Poser had larger Dev teams. Most importantly of all, many of those features have been available in other programs and packages for over a decade, including FREE animation software. So, in reality, trying to shame those who point this out in any way is just feeding into more bitterness and resentment over what Poser has become - a Pale shadow of what it was, because not only are new features not being added, but existing features are being taken away. Also, I did not "Show up" to make requests, I have been here a very long time.
I used to be a very staunch defender of Poser.
I would love to see Poser revitalized and advance again. Sadly I doubt it will happen when I see an ordinal release like this one.
The New HD Toaster from Wamco toasts bread more evenly and acurately than Standard Toasters. Take advantage of the FULL resolution of your bread and try one today, because if your toast isn't in High Definition, you are not getting the most of your toast!
For the record, I ended up paying for Poser 11 TWICE, because either Smith Micro or Bondware messed up the license transfer process.
I also bought Poser 12 despite having no intention to ever install it, only because originally Bondware didn't allow a direct upgrade path from Poser 11 to Poser 13.
(A week later they did a 180° on that policy, but I never received my money back for my unnecessary purchase of Poser 12)
I installed Poser 13, but the loss of all my legacy Python scripts turned out to be catastrophic for my creative output.
I bought some of their "new and improved" Python scripts, but their functionality was lacking, they were expensive, and on top of that they tried to phone home.
Superfly turned out to be a complete dud, even though I possess the necessary hardware (and then some).
The results are grainy, unpredictable and severely limited by the lack of micro displacement. Not to mention that, judging by the renders posted here, noone seems to actually know what he's doing.
Decent renders seem to be rather lucky accidents rather than the result of actual knowledge.
Key elements of Cycles also still seem to be missing. And any perceived speed advantage appears to be the result of poor and inefficient "spaghetti-code" Firefly shaders rather than more modern technology.
Besides, I'm not actually interrested in "photorealism" per se, and I prefer a more mature, predictable and flexible render engine like Firefly any day over "latest hot shit" render engine that in reality limits my creative output.
Not to mention that Superfly/Cycles already has already been "last years news" for quite a while.
The latest "Hot Shit" is Eevee:
Please have a look at the things Eevee can do IN REAL TIME:
Eevee - Now THAT'S A RENDER ENGINE
So, you want my $$$, Tim?
Give me back my old Python scripts, implement Eevee (But leave Firefly allone), and maybe add a few decent looking figures with an efficient and Poser friendly mesh topology (No ALL QUADS ALL THE TIME nonsense) and proper weightmapping.
And no, beauty is NOT just in the eye of the beholder. There are universally agreed upon beauty standards.
That's why the American Eagle Jeans ad was such an overwhelming success and Jaguar completely destroyed their brand.
And noone "speaks their truth" in their Calvins anymore.
I just spent a couple hours in an attempt to turn Penny (YES, POSER 5 PENNY) into something that actually might pass as a human being. (BTW, all the "work" was done right inside Poser 11)

I actually like the result, and I now find myself inspired enough that I probably invest a couple more hours weightmapping her. I might create a few better expressions for her, too. (The person originally creating the Poser 5 expressions really must have been in a dark place while doing so.)
I would have never done so for "default" Penny as I find her appearance repulsive.
That's simply human nature.
Create beautiful toys, and the people will stand in line to play with them.
Create ugly toys and people will ignore them and cast them aside.
And yes, first impressions do count. (cough-LaFemme1-cough)
There's a lot more to say, but that's all the free advice I'm willing to give.
In the end, as long as I have a working copy of Poser 11 (And, yeah, after the botched license transfer I took precautions that something like this will never happen again to me), I have everything I need.
And, sorry, but that's all what matters to me.
Joe,
Thanks for the feedback. Clearly you care a lot about Poser.
I can't speak for previous owners, but Bondware offers a 21-day free trial on all versions of Poser and will cheerfully refund license purchases for anyone is not satisfied with the version they purchased for up to 120 days afterwards.

So you pay 99.95$ for an upgrade from Poser 13.
You get PBR materials "streamlined" and better background options like a real time HDRI view.
Cloth room gone, just wait for the next upgrade and Mac support gone.
Are you effing kidding me?!
This isn't even worth a service release.
Since Poser 11, the upgrade values have declined drastically.
Where are the new features, that used to come with every najor upgrade prior to Poser 11?
Where are the new figures, that make use of new features?
Where is the new content, that used to be included in upgrades?
What about real improvements?
As far as I know, nothing has been done, improving the hair room.
Instead of improving the face room, it has been skipped. Will the Hair room be skipped the next upgrade?
So no Cloth Room anymore, instead of an improvement.
Poser 13 has been released in March 2023
That is all, that has been "achived" since then?
Hey but charging 99.95$ for the upgrade.
I keep repeating my opinion on this:
Poser has become scam-ware and a cult.
