Hi. I was wondering if anyone could give me a few tips on rendering using depth cueing. The image above has depth cueing turned on, but is not rendered (only anti-aliased). As soon is it's rendered, the entire figure practically disappears. Even with bright lighting, it's almost impossible to see. Can this effect only be accomplished by using carefully-placed lights, or can the "depth cue intensity" be adjusted in some manner? Thanks for your time! SnowS

Oh, Oh....I asked a similar question...soo...here is what I found out in very simple terms..an experiment..put two props, ball or box etc., into the scene...place one in front of the figure and one behind. adjust the distance forward and backward of each. You will see the figure change as the point of focus is adjusted....at some point the figure will be fully visible...that gives you the idea how that particular feature affects the render... heya; i didnt mess with it much, i just composited a regular render with a depth cued render to adjust the mix. (was that unhelpful or what? :) )

Thank you all for your tips. Lorraine's hint really paid off, but I'm going to give bloodsong's a try too. Post-render work is usually easier in the end...at least for me. :) Thanks again. SnowS

You can also use depth cueing to simulate a camera's "depth of focus". Someone posted this before but at that time I did not understand what effect they were going for so it did not sink in. Sorry, can't credit them. 1. Render Scene with Depth Cueing off. 2. Take that image into your favorite paint program and perform a Gaussian Blur on the whole frame. 3. Import that image into Poser as a background. 4. Without changing camera angle, re-render the scene with Depth Cueing on. Presto! Close objects in focus and objects further away get more and more out of focus.
