Subject: Lighting Question

I'm having trouble creating a good lighting effect. I wanted to simulate light from just a torch on a wall, but Poser's lights don't seem to be doing it. They don't radiate light. You can't change the shape of the cone. Is there some way to change this or to import a light or export the scene or something. I have Rhino3D, Poser, Photoshop 6.0, and PSP 7 at my disposal. Any suggestions? Thanx.

I'm not sure about the capabilities of Rhino, But I might suggest that the final render could probably be produced in Rhino. Unfortunately Poser is not that fantastic when it come to mood lighting. I tend to use spot lights rather than the Poser default. There are some good lighting tutorials for Poser at Poser Arcana.

Rhino occured to me, but when i tried to export the scene form poser to rhino i got terrible results. lack of clothes, problems with limb locations etc. that was my original plan, but i couldn't get it working.

Sorry, other than that, I use Bryce to do any real lighting effects in. I have only gone through the first basic tutorial at Poser Arcana, but did notice a marked improvement in my image lighting for doing so. There are several advanced stages that I am yet to go through there. They may hold the answer for you.

Since I use only poser i to haver had to takle this one. what I do is use spotlights. One pointing at the torch from directly above and turn the angle start up to like 120, that covers the shadows under the torch. bext I put another spot above but angled out a bit and open thre angle start to 100. that puts more light on the floor. then a third spot even with the torch pointing at the wall the torg is mounted on, also i set the shadow map of that spot to 0 and the shadow to zero and that takes care of the torch. it takes time and ins't perfect but i get pretty good results

I've been able to work out a solution by adding a ball around the flame, adjusting the transparency settings (both max and min), and applying a spot light. Check out the following tutorials: http://www.posers.net/volume.htm http://www.posers.net/streak.htm You can see an example of what I've done with these at the following page (warning: erotic nudity) http://www.renderotica.com/portal/modules.php?op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&do=getcollected&submitter=Pablo
