Dang, the URL is so long it wouldn't fit in the previous posts. The Pres of Curious Labs is whineing about being forgotten by Adobe. Seems that one of the Key Features of PPP is the export to Atmosphere. When I paid for PPP I knew what I was getting and I hoped that my $$$ was going to pay for more development. I think a lot of PPP users would rather see plugins to other Modelers like Cinema before hopeware like Atmosphere. Don't know about Atmosphere.... OH you don't care. Well it seems Adobe thinks it can do without CL and the Pro Pack. http://cgw.pennnet.com/Articles/Article_Display.cfm?Section=Articles&Subsection=Display&Article_ID=118691

Just for clarification, Pro Pack's Viewpoint exporter is the enabler for Avatars in Atmosphere Worlds. We don't have an "Atmosphere exporter" Gee- did it really come off as whining? bummer.... BTW check out the free PPP Cinema 4D plug-in- www.curiouslabs.com Steve Cooper Head Whiner Curious Labs

Steve I love PPP I a copy before it hit the mass distributors. I understand why you felt left out by the article. I went back and read it again (got my copy of CGW a week ago) and had second thoughts, I'd only give it a 2 on whimper rating ;) But seriously, do you think that Atmosphere is really worth the effort. I just don't see it catching fire like Flash. Do you really see Atmosphere as the "ticket to the bigtime"?

Atmosphere would probabley be a missmatch for Poser any way since it would likely be out of the average Poser users price range. Just look at how much they squish out of artists for Photoshop. I hope Adobe didn't partner with Curiouslabs just to figure out how to do a few things then dump'em.

I don't know if I want to try and predict the future as to Atmosphere's success, but I do know though that Adobe is entrenched in the proliferation of Atmosphere, much like they were for the PDF format. They've had over 650,000 downloads of the World Builder, in addition to the browser downloads, and there are currently over 2500 3D worlds that all need Avatars for those worlds and every visitor to that world. And for reference, the only way to create bending character avatars is via Pro Pack. Ticket to the big-time? Who knows? But most likely for us, that's the next rev of Poser. Personally, I've been hoping for web deployable 3D characters to hit the mainstream for years, and it might just be with the help of a partner like Adobe that it can succeed. I've got my fingers crossed. All that said, our Viewpoint exporter and character component development is far broader than being targeted specifically Atmosphere. There are a number of large enterprise projects planned using web-delivered interactive Poser characters compatible with the Viewpoint Media Player independant of Atmosphere. And the needs for the Viewpoint exporter are applicable to any web delivered format such as Macromedia 3D web format (in development as I write this). From a business perspective, Adobe has signed an alliance agreement with us to cross-promote Atmosphere and Pro Pack. They are still a very active and very supportive partner for us. You can read the press release on our website in the Press area. I'm glad to see this discussion revolving around Atmosphere, I was a little disappointed -there i go whining again ;-)- that the progressive members of this forum didn't latch onto it when we first got involved with the project, building community worlds and custom avatars for those worlds. Maybe this will spark those folks... Steve Cooper

Whine to your heart's desire Steve, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. It's been a long time since I first looked at the Atmosphere article and link to Adobe, but from what I can remember it seemed kind of vague at the time and I got the impression that it was something that hadn't really been released yet. It registered kind of low on my radar if you know what I mean. I may be completely wrong but perhaps if other Posers had the same impression at the time, that may be why they haven't jumped in. As the say here in Norway some times you've got to bang away at the big drums. I haven't noticed it being mentioned in any of the forums so perhaps a gentle push in the communities will get it going. I'll be getting PPP for X-mas so I'll be sure to check it out. Dave
