Subject: Large Render Problem

I have spent the past three months working on a large project for myself.It includes 16 figures with hair,clothes and props on a 3d worlds terrain with cliff and sky.I thought I would render it at 200 dpi and 20cms wide (about A4 size)I Started rendering at 6.45 pm EAST Time and 7 hours later the render bar had not moved. Am I asking too much of Poser Pro Pack enhanced?My machine has 768megs of ram,a1330 Athlon chip and 100gig hard drive with 20 gigs free on the Poser drive.If Poser cannot handle this size render,How do other artists get to poster size,and Can anyone help or suggest a solution to making large renders? You left out something important...what is your Operating system? If its Win98/Me you've very likely exceeded what its memory management can handle (actually, 768 is too much for Win98/Me to handle regardless of what you're doing). 16 figures is a lot, then add the scenary, textures, etc. and you've basically overwhelmed your OS. I installed XP and all render choking by Poser vanished. NT based systems are infinitely better at managing memory and I'm glad I upgraded if just for Poser's sake.

For your current system, I would recommend rendering composites. If you have 16 figures, try rendering several scenes with different figures and then using a paint program to merge them together into one image.

Thanks for Your reply. I have windows 2000 Professional and I am looking at purchasing XP.

Since you already have Win2K changing to XP won't help you...you're already benefiting from NT's memory handling. Try defragging your drive (seems to help some folks) and check the size of your paging file. Even with that much RAM a very large complicated picture may need more swap space to get going. If you have manually set the paging, increase the size. If windows is managing it, it may not be able to resize it properly while Poser is trying to render. You can try manually setting it to a larger size. Also be sure you turn off anything running in the background so Poser can have all the memory and processor attention for itself. Another thought...Poser has a limit on the physical size it can render from the main window. I don't recall off hand what that size is or what happens if you exceed it, but you can render as a one frame animation to get past it. I hope you get it working :)
