As you must do Ron, since you're still here responding to the thread. I see a huge difference in using an item in a render compared to using it in a product where it can be used over and over. A render is using an item as it was intended by the creator, a product for sale using freebie items is not using it as it was intended by the creator. On the other hand, the commercial issue doesn't affect me as I will never be good enough to sell anything, even renders. But I simply can't keep track of every freebie and every readme I download no matter how I try. I'm not that organized nor is my memory that good 2 years later. shrug Just my opinion, I don't really care if anyone agrees or not.

Shaking head Ron no one invited you to reply to this thread. and no one jumped on you for speaking your mind. SO why do you jump on everyone else? I am curious about that. But don't answer it. I don't want to know. If we want to debate/discuss it we have the right to and we want to. Whether we have time on our hands or not.

God, this is funny. "Give me all you got, for free, let me do anything I want with it. I want to make money, but I don't want to buy my own tools." "And don't you dare complain about it, or I'll call you a martyr with a persecution complex." The silly thing is that I'm not the only one who objects to this line of thinking. When it comes down to it I don't think any of my freebies would make anyone money. And after this little discussion, with its usual insults, I ain't likely to make any more freebies. Some folks will never learn. So how many great freebie artists stopped producing freebies after this thread?! How many more will stop after the next one?! Ron, you're the only one convinced that this is everyone's "line of thinking". Not one person has said, or even implied any of the ideas you keep projecting onto everyone. You stated the words and then continued to post as if someone actually said and ment them. No one here has expressed any entitlement attitude but they have discussed their different opinions on the subject. You are the one blowing it up out of proportion. So much so that you've managed to turn a thread from a potential productive discussion into a three ring circus. Congratulations.

NO, excuse me. I won't wear them shoes. If people continually express their negative opinion concerning freebie artists who have restrictions against commercial use, they are basically stating that they want it all for nothing, and are very selfish. You take what you get and like it or don't take it. I've never said everyone feels the way I do. I have said that many freebie artists had grown tired of such expressions of opinion long ago, and many will continue to get tired of this. This type of debate has gone on for at least as long as I've been here at Renderosity. It does absolutely no good. It does however, piss people off, including me. The very existence of this thread is the problem, not my attitude toward the negative attitudes expressed here. The hell of it is you can look around with very little effort and find several other threads that say the same thing. And they have the same amount of heated debate in them. That's the plain truth.

Someone in another thread a few weeks back mentioned that their "spiritual beliefs" (in quotes because I'm not sure of the EXACT phrase used) prohibited them from allowing people to make money from any gifts they gave. And I thought to myself at the time that it was rather silly, then, to give a gift of pencils or paintbrushes to an artist or a pincushion to a seamstress or a set of wrenches to a mechanic or a new typewriter to an author. As for the freestuff restrictions here, I don't give a rat's rear end. If I cannot use it for what I need, then it's useless and gets deleted (or I don't bother downloading in the first place). As for the person who said it was unenforceable, well, I do have to agree there to some extent. If, for instance, the creator of the prop lives in Alaska and the creator of the image lives in New Mexico and the image is never seen online, how in the world would the prop maker even KNOW that it had been used in an image that was sold at the local flea market? Believe it or not, not all art is sold online. There is a whole other world out there with a lot of people in it who buy pictures to hang on their walls. These people don't care who made the props or the textures or the poses or the light sets or the MAT files or the Morph Targets, all they care about is whether or not they like the picture and if the price is right. Keep your expectations realistic, folks. Remember, the entire world does not exist within the confines of the internet. Kate (wandering off to do something constructive with her time)

"If people continually express their negative opinion concerning freebie artists who have restrictions against commercial use, they are basically stating that they want it all for nothing, and are very selfish."

Look at the people posting opinions on this Ron. They are also freestuff providers but they don't restrict their stuff. Am I selfish for allowing commercial use and wishing others would consider it too? You have no right to project what you think people are "basically saying" into this.

You also seem to be speaking for a very large number of people. Most of whom, I'm sure, would rather you not place yourself in the position of their spokesperson.

"The very existence of this thread is the problem, not my attitude toward the negative attitudes expressed here."

This thread started as someone going through a gallery with a fine tooth comb and jumping to conclusions. It led to the discussion on the fact that not all free stuff is restricted and the person should have realized that before jumping on someone.

It also could have been very productive if it weren't for people like you putting words in the mouths of every freestuff contributor out there. (you definitely don't speak for me)
Fyrespiryt's comments for example. She has legitimate, personal reasons for controlling her offers and in this discussion a lot of people learned (and hopefully understood) why. That's what I mean by "productive".

You're the only one stating absolutes and demands here, Ron.

"You take what you get and like it or don't take it."

Why didn't you take that advice when the issue of Daz protecting their morphs came up? You certainly seemed to feel entitled to your disagreement with them over that issue. Why don't you feel that others are entitled to the same type of discussion on this issue?

KateTheShrew (Hey, I'm a Kate too! Well, a Kati! Hi hi!), I just wanted to clarify, because I did the "spiritual beliefs" part. In my specific case, my personal beliefs will not let me help someone make money at specific activities. When I figured out a (rather obvious and I can't believe I didn't think of it before) way to reword my read-me to prevent that, I re-released those items for with commercial use allowed. I understand there are some cultures and religions that honestly don't allow gifts to be used for profit -- for instance, the hypothetical seamstress would only use that pincushion for personal items or other gifts, and would use a different one for her job. A pincushion wouldn't be given to a seamstress who wouldn't agree with that. So I thought it would be worthwhile to plant that idea as well. I'm glad I was able to explain well why some of my downloads have limits.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 2:27 AM

Ah, well, didn't realize that was you, fyrespirit, and thanks for the clarification. Although, I do have to say I'm the sort of person who would refuse to accept that sort of gift, just as I'm the sort who won't download something I couldn't use as I needed, but I'm sure you're the sort of person who would find that understandable and reasonable. Kate (Hi back! :*)

FyreSpiryt ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 6:50 AM

Absolutely. I think that's a very mature and responsible way to handle it.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 1:12 PM

Now, if we could just convince the rest of the yay-hoos around here to be as reasonable and mature as we are we'd be all set. wink, nudge, grin Kate (grinning, ducking and running for cover)

Um, I forget. Is that my cue to give someone a wedgie, or start throwing water balloons? ^_~

Oh wedgie, definitely. Yup. hehe
