Subject: Creating conforming Clothing question...

Here's a problem I've run into while creating a jacket for my Janelle character. When the item is brought in as a prop or as a figure, it sits perfectly. The second I tell it to conform, it shifts forward, and the sleeves drop down so they are approx half way through her wrists. Some more information on how the jacket was created: 1) it was modeled in Lightwave around an exported Janelle figure, exported as seperate .obj files the corespong to the "groups" needed in Poser (i.e. rForeArm, rShlrd, etc.)m then actual group data was assigned using UVMapper. 2) the seperate .obj files were then imported into Poser with all options in the import dialouge box turned off. These were then set into a proper parent/child relationship using the Heirarchy Editor. The files were then exported as one unit in .obj format making sure to have the group data included in the file. 3) The new .obj file was then re-imported into Poser and check for prooer fit, proper grouping data, etc. Once all that was found to be correct, I closed the file, started a new document, and brought in the P4 Catsuit to used as a base conformer. I zeroed all the figure data in joint editor, memorized the figure and added it to the libray as a conformer. 4) With all that done, I then closed poser, copied the conformer to the New figures directory, and opened it and edited it with Wordpad following the instructions in thip's tutorial(www.smercure.com/tutorials_poser/ConformingClothing.htm) in case anyone need to have alook at it). Once the .cr2 was edited and the proper pointers to the .obj file for the jacket were completed, I saved it and opened Poser. 5) Everything looked great when I created the new figure of the jacket. I brought in Janelle to test it out, and once I conformed it, I went all out of wack. I checked the raw conformer file to see if there was any problem with it, but it conformed properly. I repeated the above steps several times just to make sure I hadn't overlooked any thing, but it always ends up the same way, a little forward with dropped sleeves. Any one got any ideas, or suggestions? I'd certianly appreciate any advice you might have to offer. Thanks in advance, Genma aka Duane

Do you have hands on the conforming jacket?

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

wow what you did sounds complicated. i use the box method... its simple, and your conformer never moves. first i import a cube so that it will completely cover vicki's body. doesnt matter how big the cube is, because you just mess with the "figure size" setting when you import it until it pops in at the right size (you may have to tweak the offset setting also for imported objects) and completely covers her. (for me the setting is 150% of standard figure size) next i just export vicki's body completely concealed inside the large box, as an obj (export her AND the box). in my modeler i separate her from the box (hide the box for later use) make the clothing to fit her body, then export the clothing inside the box which i unhide. in poser you import it at 150% of figure size, or whatever it was for you originally, and POOF conformer appears exactly on her. this is what you would do if it's a joint centering problem i think, which is what it sounded like.

you should never build your clothing around an exported figure. you really want to base your clothing on the actual geometry files residing in the runtime folder (or wherever they actually lie on your drive). often the cr2, even when saved in a "zeroed" state, may yet retain some hidden settings, like that of the xyz offsets, that don't get zeroed, and will displace the model. to test this theory, open janelle's actual geometry file in lightwave and see how well the jackets fits. my guess is that there will be discrepancies.

heyas; you're doing lots of stuff you don't need to do. 1: you DO need to model the clothes around the base obj file, not any exported object. but don't despair. just import the base obj into poser, and load your clothing. "pose" your clothing so it fits on your figure. then export that as your new base obj. problem solved. 2: you DO need to slice your clothing obj into the correct body parts corresponding to the target figure. if you have lightwave 7, you can just create "parts" with the proper names. (you can also create materials right in lightwave.) for heaven's sake, skip the chopping each piece and exporting each piece and importing each piece and ESPECIALLY the mucking around in the hierarchy editor bit :) if you don't have lightwave 7, you can still create part_material groups and edit them in a text editor with search and replace. 3: you do not need to zero the catsuit, it is already a properly conforming figure. just copy the cr2 and plug in your obj file. for the 'painlessly easy conforming clothing' tutorial, check out my goodies page :)

Thanks very much to all of you folks for the helpful advice... I figured it was something stupid that I'd just overlooked, and it was. I had to redo the mesh using the p4nudewoman geometery file (not too terribly difficult since I'd used splines to do all the actula modeling. A few adjustments and everything was good to go), but it's working perfectly now. Again, thanks very much. You should be seing an image featuring it in a couple of days. Genma aka Duane
