welp, here it is.... like I said, this is a WIP, and as such needs some help. from what I can determine, it needs some ground plants, some animals, and some debris...I'm not sure how I'm going to do the debris...perhaps make some leaves, and scatter them...what do you think? BTW, incase you missed my other thread, there are 1296 trees total, one terrain, one 2D face, and a ground plane. I am currently looking for a suitable texture to use for the road, but haven't stumbled upon one yet. also, does anyone know of a good place to find plants? thanks, big_hoovie

i dont know if this is any help, but when i have something like that to do, i create it in layers, eg. the distant trees, produce a render of them alone then transfer that to a picture plane/transparency (probably not the right term but i think u know what i mean). this should dramatically reduce render problems. also you could apply this to plants, some digi photos, as transparant bG picture planes. also maybe use a terrain with slight curves for the foreground grass/road rather than dead flat. hope this helps.

I think it needs a motorcyle rider headed down the road. I don't know why, it was just the first thing I thought of. Definitely use some flattened mountains on the ground under the trees to make it lumpier. They can be piles of leaves or something. Also, can you vary the size/height of the trees a bit? They look pretty regular. Nice haze effect. It looks just like autumn haze on a fine morning. Lin.

Try Plant Studio. You can make your own then. Can't remember the URL, but maybe someone can. Mostly about 200K in 3DS format, so you can have hundreds of them without any big slow-down.

http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/download.htm 3dplants currently has a free model of (oak?) leaves scattered on the ground. there was a Bryce obp with several kinds of leaves, textured autumnly. but I don't know where or who. BTW, I created something in Plant Studio that looked like a bunch of pine needles. 115 megs. :-) Got fed up with waiting Bryce to import it and deleted it afterwards.

Looks great but as lsstrout said vary the trees. They all look the same age and size, etc.

Dude...it's called use a dozen trees and make the rest 2d faces...lol. Must have almost crippled your pc.

lol, A.S. I was thinking the same thing. 1300 trees? I think my computer would've fried itself in frustration at about 20.

I think you need to give the ground some more texture. a little displacement-mapping in the terrain editor would make a better ground. Some blowing leaves would look good too. The terrain in the background is a little jaggy too. But the concept is cool. nice image.

thanks all for the suggestions! It looks like it's time to go back to work on this. another question, though: there are about 7 or 8 diffrent textures applied to leaves. if I select all the trees, and edit them in the tree lab(to change the leaf shape) will the textures remain as they are, or will I have to start over(I may do that anyway, so I can do the 2D face thing) thanks, big_hoovie

I fear that you would lose your texture diversity. You can ofcoarse give every tree-type it's own family so you can easily select them.

Yup, pretty sure you will lose the varied textures. Also, if you family-group your trees...just in case...always use the "E" to edit each family, I wouldn't go to "M" for materials, this may apply say, the leaf material to not only your trees but also your bark/trunk. Not sure about that, but ya never know/something to watch out for, lol.

unfortunatly, I was dumb when I did this, and neglected to think ahead...and didn't assign each tree type a diffrent family...=c( perhaps I WILL have to start over...
