I just read a similar post in Poser Forum--where it said Corel did NOT buy Poser. I had skipped over this post previously because I got different meaning from 'subject' and came back to read it after Poser post. I have never had any Corel products, I don't think. Wonder how Eric Wenger views this? Diane B
Bryce has a home isn't that what really matters. I'm pretty sure Corel will hire all those people who were laid off last Christmas, so I would think the same brains will be working to produce the next version. I'm happy. As to the question about Corel software, I use Corel 8. I have also used versions 6 & 7. 6 was so so and 7 was very unstable, but I find version 8 to be excellent, and they say version 9 is even better. My wife uses Photoshop and Illustrator at work,so I read the manual and I can see no real differance between Photoshop and Photopaint except for terminology. I also used Photoshop at her workplace and found both programs virtually identical.Hope this eases some of your fears....Cheers,H2
Adobe has several 3D products actually, all of which are linked to Photoshop. Corel, well, I use wordperfect and love it. Corel Draw is considered an industry standard right next to illustrator. Bryce sells well. It's not an expensive package and people love it. I suspect that the Corel people have noticed that 3D and VRML work is getting more and more popular. I also suspect they'll make some changes in Bryce to adapt it more to high end usage for web sites, shockwave, etc. Which might or might not be good. Corel is a good company, but we may see Bryce priced twice as high as it has been.

Well me and my father (Harrison2) where talking about this. My bet is that Corel outbid Adobe on everything and they got stuck with Carra :P Zygot apparently have a annoucement to make and I think that since there is no mention of who got Poser i come to think they got it, would make alot of sense. As for Corel, 6 was a bit iffy, I mortally hated 7, but as my father said 8 is great and a few friends of mine who use 9 say its alot better, Corels a good company, and I doubt the price of Bryce will shoot up right away (that would just piss everyone off) :P F3nix
Despite the fact that Adobe products are way overpriced, Corel, by virtue of being a Canadian company, has more money to spend, so you may be right. Personally, I desoise Adobe Illustrator, but it's an industry standard, soooo. Haven't tried Corel Draw. I've heard it's supposed to be good though

Someone forwarded me an e-mail from the author of the original code, Eric Wenger I think. I can't find it so I hope this is right. He says he never sold anything but publishing rights for Bryce to Metacreations. The source code remains his and he promises new versions when he is done with his current project. I don't know anything about Corel myself. I've heard both good and bad things about them. As a Bryce enthusiast, any action with the program is good news to me. I highly recommend the 4.0.1 upgrade still available at Metacreations. Whoever gets it, PLEASE SUPPORT EXPORT FEATURES! Anvil
I suspect they'll port it to Mac when they get settled with it. I'm sure you're right that they want to know who's using it. But Corel has ported most of it's products not onlt to Mac, but also to linux as well this last year. Give them time. They really are a good, responsible company, though the prez is a bit of a flake

That surprises me, it really does. First of all cause Mac users have to be at least a third of the market, if not more. Corel doesn't easily pass up a buck. It's not all THAT hard to port to Mac. Linix is harder and they've done that, though I don't know if the versions are the same. Me, I'm still using Word Perfect Suite 8 and have no intention of upgrading. I like what I have and it does what I want. Is it really necessary to have the latest software to be happy with it? I understand your concern, and have never heard of Corel having that attitude before. Personally, if I was in the software business, I'd port products to Mac and Linux routinely. Cover the market. That's how you make money. But, like I said, while the company is a good company, the owner is a bit of a flake, almost show business kind of guy, with a model level wife. They're kind of caught up in the glitter. But the rest of the company is usually pretty good. Have you checked Corel's website to see if there are upgrades for your program posted there? Corel has always been really good about posting patches and upgrades, though I've never paid attention to Mac portings.

Personally, I think this will be great! I've used Corel Draw 9 and Photo Paint 8&9, and I've loved using them. I've found them easier to use than Photo Shop and Illustrator. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what they can do with these programs. From what I've seen in there current products, I am confident in what will come in future versions of Bryce, Painter, etc...
