Description

The word Safari conjures up all sorts of images and the animal kingdom programs from Mutual of Omaha also added adventure to Africa. A friend Suzy, living in Phoenix AZ told me some about her uncle, who was behind the programs.
This photograph shows how anyone visiting Africa nowadays for the wildlife, would experience the "safari" - now more appropriately called game drives. It is a pity that tourists can not explore nature on foot freely but the positive side is that tourists come a lot closer to dangerous animals while in vehicles than would have been the case on foot. Another good reason for vehicles: the temperature was above 40C (104F). Wild animals do not recognize the human form in the vehicles and are consequently not showing typical alert behavior.
I get a number of very different types of questions ranging from the wild animals to conditions in Africa a tourist and photographers should know about. I opened a blog entry if anybody would like to leave a question or see what other people wrote or asked.

Wonderful collage of modern day African sight seeing, but whatever happened to the good old days of the great white hunter leading a group of tenderfoots from Europe/USA, single file, followed by native gun and equipment bearers, through the hot, humid and dangerous jungle? The new way doesn't seem to be much fun, challenging, or adventurous.

I'm wondering if the nice looking lady on the left is someone you know well? Love this "wild" presentation. My sister recently went on a safari. She came very close to a Rhino I believe..But enjoyed it very much. This is wonderful Piet. Enjoy your weekend:0)bonita

Beautiful collage. When I was younger and single, I was going to go on a safari. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go. Maybe one of these days I will. I really enjoy seeing so many different places. Love the 3D too. Aloha

Ciao Piet.
You made a fantastic presentation for this collage my friend ! I love it ! I don't know how you made this effect of "photo" but it's superb. This young lion seems to be very relax !!! I think I'll don't like to make a trip in this way... I need to walk, to visit be myself a place. Of course with a guide with me, who could teach me all about the place, fauna and flora, but in this way.... No, lol ! But for so many people, it's a good way. We are all differents, that's better !
Thank you for showing all these places Piet. The more I see your shots, the more I hope to have the opportunity to go one day in South Africa !
Have a peaceful week-end my friend. Nathalie

Super collage, Piet. Thanks for the info! I still think of a safari as Stewart Granger in bush hat leading a column of hunters and porters across the savanna. I have to admit that this way looks a lot more comfortable.
