Description

The word Safari conjures up all sorts of images and the animal kingdom programs from Mutual of Omaha also added adventure to Africa. A friend Suzy, living in Phoenix AZ told me some about her uncle, who was behind the programs.
This photograph shows how anyone visiting Africa nowadays for the wildlife, would experience the "safari" - now more appropriately called game drives. It is a pity that tourists can not explore nature on foot freely but the positive side is that tourists come a lot closer to dangerous animals while in vehicles than would have been the case on foot. Another good reason for vehicles: the temperature was above 40C (104F). Wild animals do not recognize the human form in the vehicles and are consequently not showing typical alert behavior.
I get a number of very different types of questions ranging from the wild animals to conditions in Africa a tourist and photographers should know about. I opened a blog entry if anybody would like to leave a question or see what other people wrote or asked.
Thanks for visits and comments to "Not just a flower":

I have to admit that with my bad joints, this has a much greater appeal to me than walking about on the sands. The 104f doesn't bother me a bit, I thrive int he hotter weather, but and hour of waking like that and my knees would be killing me. However, I would hate to be on the back row of this thing if the driver slammed on brakes quickly LOL. :-) It is also great that they can get closer to the animals and thereby learn to love them more.

Thought I'd recognize the style! I see the hunters are all appropriately dressed - equipped with heavy... Cola??? LOL. Well - if it helps to preserve they can have their coke - for all I care. Bravo - well seen and presented!

I'd love to go on 'safari' once... there are so many destinations on my wishing list actually... it will take a lot of years to do them all, sigh! Amazing presentation and great 3d effect on the lion! Excellent work again!

I love the lion walking on top of the picture! Thanks for explaining why people are safe in those open vehicles...I always wondered why the lions didn't just jump up to get to the people. You hoof it....I'll stay safe in the vehicle until you jumped down..then maybe I'd follow you....wayyyy behind you!... with Pat in front of me.. LOL
