Description

Big was my surprise when I stumbled on something I did now know existed in South Africa outside the zoos. At first I thought I had too much to drink the previous night. Thanks to Klaus (tarantula-man) who helped me put a name to this "fellow", yes, it is apparently a Fallow Deer or Dama Dama.
These creatures have the most amazing long eyelashes.
Thank you for visits and comments to the "Vierkleur". It was heart warming to realize so many people cared for cultures elsewhere:

A striking portrait of a member of the deer family, and what an interesting tattoo you put under his chin! He is either very use to people being close-up or you had a the telephoto. Either way, great pic, Piet!

A wonderful creature !! Your shot is so clear closest Like "Busi" signed discreetly ! Great done, Piet Kind of "antilope family" or "cervidfamily" ="cerf in France, renne in Finland, caribou in Canada"? May be I'm talking on nonsense ( dire des bises in french ) For info about "antilope", because in North Africa,Marocco for example, there's a lot of antilopes (gazelles in French) "arzel"(masc)"arzella"(fem) in native language so I'm going to click on your links added to know more Amiti & hugs q:)

What a beauty, and a wonderful display of antlers. I love the presentation, the background looks as if its been painted. He's certainly keeping an eye on you Piet, but at focal length of 53mm you must of been pretty close huh? Very cool image.

This is a stunning portrait. How still and alert he seems. Love the little bit of grass in his mouth. I feel I could reach out and touch him.

The eyelashes are lovely but I am taken with the construction of the antlers. How amazing. The creature has a wonderfully alert look and this is indeed a marvelous photo!

Well! that's one creature I AM familiar with ... it was a New Year's Day family tradition [in my first marriage] to feed the herd of fallow deer in a nearby park. The children loved it and it was a very good way to chase away a hangover I might add. Great shot! Mike
