Description

I been wishing to photo some of the Marshes of south Louisiana. Here I find some dead trees.most the time you see nothing but some water and the tall thick grass reefs. Salt water I think killed these trees. I know it Earth Day today. I put my two cent into it. Louisana is lossing land every year. I do not trust the figures I saw for if you do the math and I not that good in math but I do know if we lossing land like they say we are from the time I was born to now Louisiana would not be here; it be wash away into the Gulf. Why are we lossing land? Because the states above us built levels to keep the Mississippi in the channel. That river used to flood and wash the dirt down and give it to Louisiana. Now not too much dirt is comeing down so we lossing land. We change nature to keep land where it is and so Louisisana is lossing. WE change nature too so those states can keep they land. Plus some Earth day person suited the Army Cord of Engineers from building a flood gate somewhere close to New Orleans because it would effect the wild life. The Army wish to put it there to stop a flood from the Gulf in case a storm comes up with one. That person won the suit and no gate was builted. Mother Nature did it thing and killed the wild life there and flooded a lot of land around New Orleans about a year ago. And that person that won the law suit had moved on a long time ago. Hope he know what he did for Mother Earth. I read a lot of what man did and why he did it. What the Romans did and other people in the past did to change nature. Just for his own selfness ways he did this most the time. Guess you know I do not believe in Globle warming too. It just so the goverments can tax you on what ever. Like a country in EU have to pay a tax of 20 EU to Bar B Que in they backyard; and the goverment is going to fly over the house in helicopters to check the people who did not pay. lol now they wasteing a lot of gasoline and puting more stuff in the air that a bar b que can with that way of checking on things. It comeing to your country too so watch out. I sorry I outrage here but to me Earth day is how we can destory the land and take money from the people too And have people belive it for they good. If I wrong; sorry thanks for looking and reading; comments too and if you mad at me hey we all get mad at times; So we even.

Super photo Jock:) I think our government (UK) is the worst for thinking up new ways to raise taxes in the name of global warming. If your house is not energy efficiant, they want to tax you more. So you fit double glazing etc which increases the value of your house as well as making it more green and then they want to tax you extra for having a nice house!!

A wonderful scene and capture - makes me feel as if I am at home. Much of where I live is salt marsh similar to this in many places. We had sea walls and the salt marsh was drained for farming, but now they are taking down the walls and letting nature do the work because it caused terrible floods and damage to have walls and in the end just like King Canute could have told them you cannot hold back the sea. Sounds crazy ? Well taking down the walls actually lessens the chances of floods because salt marsh builds up along the coast line and absorbs the power from the waves - mother nature does her job and we don't risk catastrophic flooding. Anyways keep well jocko good to know you are thinking about the problems be they man made or not .

Sometime pick up a copy of The Monkey Wrench Gang and read it. It is one of those "cult" books from the past and today would be considered a homeland terrorist novel, I'm sure, but I have read it over and over and in it I see a great deal of truth. In order for mankind to promote himself and his lifestyle, we have altered the course of mother nature. To do what is suggested in this book would mean a great loss of life and money to many, but to stop now and understand that the quick fix is a short fix at best might save what little we have left. The same thing that is happening in LA is happening in all coastal areas - my beloved Texas also suffers. So does this place I live in now and its an inland area with rivers and lakes. Change the course of water and you change the course of man. This is a wonderful view of the salt flats. Fish and fowl will inhabit it long after we are washed away with the tide.

Jocko-I wish I had the link RE::Al Gores home as he is one that preaches re:gobal warnings: I read where he has something like a 5-6- thousands in electric bills a month or more and he has so many bedrooms bathrooms very large home and the grounds are lit up like a christmas tree everyday apparently not saving energy types Now if this is true whats wrong with the picture?? and truly what do we believe what's true and whats not?? I guess we have to look at logic for our future children and we all have to admit we have abused what god made: hugs )) nice photo:

Living here in Washington St and seeing life renewing its self around Mt Saint Helen I beleive this planet can evolve and survive. It's the effect it will have on mankind I worry about. A wonderful thought provoking, image Jock.

Sorry about what's happening to your state of Louisiana, Jocko. I served there in the Army many years ago. I believe New Orleans should be rebuilt but relocated away from the gulf and farther north in Louisiana. Everything you say is true, except I do believe in global warming, and it has nothing to do with government taxing. Just research the rapid melting at the poles and the glaciers in the Alps and around Alaska and Greenland -- which in itself is losing its ice cover. Islands in the Pacific are being flooded over by the rise in oceans. Birds, fish, insects and mammals, who normally make their homes farther south, are moving northward. Don't be so cynical, do your homework and check it out.
