Description

This was a workshop done for ImagineFX Magazine in their 12th issue. The idea behind the concept was to depict an army of giant earth and fire elementals rampaging and destroying the land. These giant creatures were summoned by a dark force of magic and bare ritual symbols carved into their forearms. This takes place in an undetermined time setting that could exist in an imaginary date or a late 1800 or 1900's time era based on the human characters and objects involved in the scene. The focus of this image was to teach the readers of the magazine how I go about producing mood and dynamic action in a piece through the use of color and brush strokes in Photoshop CS2.

Pure brilliance!!!! IT's images like this that remind me that 3D apps are great but we seem to get trapped with what's there and what it can do...not what we want to do!!! I am always in the trap. LOL. Superb freedom of expression!!!

stuart83@- Thanks man 3dillusions@- Thanks SnowSultan@- Thanks, I do..its just that the 1 image a day thing kinda slows that all down ;) but someone explained why its this way especially on a site that is mostly 3D and Photography based. (more than 1 view of a new model etc.) aliensprog@- Thanks, some times I think I'd like to learn 3d because I'd like to take my ideas to the next level "especially when animating something" Bobbo@- thanks

This is such a nice image I can tell that it must have taken some time to do. Ive been trying to do some photoshop painting myself in the attempt to add more to my portfolio and for some more experience using photoshop.

NerariousDRO@- Thanks, it was actually one of the few times I really tried anything of a dynamic action, so although I was please I felt it could have definitely improved in a "hell" of a lot of areas concerning that aspect. liltawen@- Thank you Skyback@- Thanks ;) Zal Nor@- yea if you're a 3D artist and capable of creating your own concepts from sketch to final and ortho sheet you're that much more of an asset to the team. I myself am baffled by 3D programs, I think if you can learn 3D and do it well 2d should come that much easier because you know how to work from all angles..gaining the technical skills of perspective and forms should be a tad easier after working CG/3D I think this image took me a straight week possibly 2 but that was on and off and between art direction, waiting for reply e-mails, showing the sketches, some changes, writing up a full 2500 word workshop tutorial or so and taking screen shots of the progress. All in all I think the actual final painting you see here took between 12-18 hours. I never clock myself though I keep saying I should for business purposes. Mike C -
