Description

Ordinarily, I do not re-post an image unless I have had second thoughts about the quality and/or authenticity of the image composition. The previous image; SunGold, contained a population of Saguaro cactus which is not indigenous to the red rock country of northern Arizona/Utah it is too cold and of a higher elevation than this cactus is accustomed to in these regions. Saguaros thrive in the Sonoran desert and its range is from extreme southeastern California, southern Arizona; and, adjoining northwestern Mexico. Traveling north from Phoenix towards Flagstaff, you will notice the population of Saguaros decrease as the elevation increases. Even in nearby red-rock Sedona, you will not find the Saguaro. It is for this reason that I decided to re-work this image limiting the vegetation to sage brush and creosote bushes. Improvements to this image include the addition of cumulus clouds which cast some nice shadows on the upper terrain; and, a change of POV moving closer to the mountains and lower to the ground. The larger cracked rocks are a bit too smooth; I will continue to work on this. Noteworthy is a clip file of the cracked rocks created by Tangled-Universe which I used; and, which you can download at the Planetside Forum. The link is: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=1939.msg19180#msg19180 Thank you for visiting; and, for your suggestions for improvement. Be sure to visit http://www.imaginature.us for links to other artists galleries as well as for some terrain downloads.

I wouldn't think you could substantially improve on one of your images, but the clouds really make this come alive to me. I'm envious of those rocks- I'm still workin' on that. You inspire by example Bob!

If you are trying to achieve a photo realistic image you are very close, Bob! There are limitations of these 3D softwares specially when you came to close up details! Some works in Photoshop, like texturing, are necessary! I really admire your perseverance! Wonderful view, terrain and light!!! :)

There are soaptree yucca plants and prickly pear cacti all over the landscape there. Cholla, Century plants and Agaves are present too. Some trees are cypress and junipers. Tough plants to make but can be done in alternate 3d apps like Max, Silo or Carrara. Can even create alpha plane images to populate the landscape if meshing the plants is too much. Always love desert scenes, authentic or fantasy. I live in the Mojave desert and love it here. Kingman and Oatman Az. are other favorite locations for me. Sedona, Seligman, Flagstaff all great motorcycle runs! Super image.

A very good render, nice realism, superb light. Perhaps some improvement on the foreground rocks, but I've got no more suggestion to improve this xlt work.
