Description

Yesterday was a cold, drizzly, rainy, dreary day. It was too dark for any good shots, so I did not pay that much attention to the bird feeders. Then I happened to look out once and gasped to see that it seemed to be raining goldfinches outside! It was like Grand Central Station out there! (American joke for crowded as a busy train station). I ran and got the camera, and hurriedly got off a few snapshots of the most crowded period where they were fluttering around and bustling and fussing for the best feeding position before half of them dispersed into the trees. What this image doesn't show is that the lower feeder hanger has another hook below the one you see, which has a bag of black niger seed hanging from it, and there were three more feeding there and a couple in the bush right next to it! When I posted my first goldfinch a few days ago, I said I had never seen a goldfinch in Texas before, and when what to my wondering eyes should appear ... well over a dozen of them, ...well, I had to get a snapshot of them, even if this is not nearly as sharp as I would have liked because of the awful low light and drizzle. This is the same hanging feeder that I motion blurred out in yesterday's rosy house finch image because of its distracting background. Didn't expect to be showing it today, lol. A dozen sparrows or doves is no big deal, but seeing this many of a new bird species was, at least for me. Hopefully I can get a clearer shot on a cold but sunny day. Thank you very much for your views and kind comments!

Lovely shot of such a cheery visitor to the birdfeeder. We have many of these beauties here in Tennessee but all of my shots of them seem to be blurred...lol So I feel like you've done well! They arrive at my feeders in flocks also and fly about brightly in summer... when I see them like that instead of thinking of them as a flock, I think of them as a "fair"~ =)

Great shot. I feed the yellow finches thistle seed and they love it. I have them all the time in my feeders. Same weather today in Va. Rain and sleet this morning. :(

A veritable feeding frenzy, Maria. How beautiful to see this. I love the motion blur of the flying finch it adds to the mood here. It is a lovely shot in the low light conditions. Bravo, Maria. Hugs. Diane.

I'm so pleased that you got to see so many at once and to experience the joy of that. They are such beautiful birds and you got a wonderful picture of them. I'm also impressed with your beautiful feeder - it makes my plain one seem really ugly now.
