Description

I'm still taking my intermediate Vue class and this is from lesson 4 (of 6 lessons). We worked with the cloud editor and making our own skies. I started with the bare default sky and created this. My biggest problem was getting the cloud settings and render settings to render the clouds without graininess. This was the best I could do and still had to use the 'soften' brush in PSPXI to remove some grain. For a finished image, this could use a boat, birds or far-off castle-like buildings for interest, but I was pretty happy with the overall effect and decided to share. ***Bryce comments: I have been a strong proponent of Bryce and have always been proud of the fact that I was a Bryce user and showing what Bryce is capable. I won V6I big discounts and bought it. I felt that I needed to learn to use it and have been practicing with it. The other day I went into Bryce and had to stop to think how to use some of the controls!!!!!!! I'm torn between continueing with Vue and leaving Bryce in the dust. I feel like a traitor. I don't know what to do :( I wish that Daz3D would do something with Bryce besides let it languor. They need to increase the speed at which it renders radiosity and heavy atmosphere and mats. More believable clouds and trees would be cool too. Kind weird to feel this way about a software program, lol.

It looks fantastic!!! Personally, I would not hesitate if I were you. Vue is a much better program than Bryce and well worth the investment of time. Maybe you should look at your time with Bryce as a stepping stone to this!

Mr Multi-apps-slut here...you can't have enough 3d programs as they all can do something really well, that the other can't ! Your clouds have turned out very photo-realistic and lets hope the boffins re-work Bryce SOON ! LOL & ~Cheers~

What a fantastic render!! I agree with mikeerson, this is realistic! Nancy, the saying "less is more" comes to mind here. There is no need for anything more.To put a boat, a bird or anything else would take away, distract the eye from the subject matter. For it is exactly the clouds that attracts the eye. The water looks inviting, the mountain range makes you want to see the world from the top of it. This looks so much like a scene of a volcano on an exotic island. The clouds would make the great Masters of the Renaissance period proud. The color and texture makes one want to reach up and touch it just to see if it is real. Torn? No.....just expanding your range of talent. Art is a constant learning, at some time in the future I have this feeling that you will find a way to marry the two. And they will live happily ever after.... Bravo to you..you've so much talent to be proud of. Pat yourself on the back, do a little yes dance, give yourself a medal and a sizzle on your hip. You've got it going on girl....keep on keeping on...you've got us hanging on our seats waiting with bated breath for your next masterpiece! ~Michelle~

Hey Nance, great work. Apparently, to get rid of the graininess, you need to jack up the quality booster in the atmo editor. It will make the render longer to complete, but it will come out clearer. I haven't tried it yet, but I get impatient waiting for the pic to finish.

I felt the same way. But guess what. I still use Bryce for certain things and incorporate it into a Vue render. For instance, I think it is much easier positioning objects in Bryce than Vue. Keep working with Vue and you'll see the power in it. Great cloud work

Can't you use the scenes you build in Vue as background in Bryce? Or is that mixing oranges and apples. Anyway, you've creating an amazingly beautiful sunset, which I thought at first was a photo, too!

The Sky is amazing Nancy. I wrestled with my feelings over Bryce too, I used to be a hardcore Brycer and that evolved into being a Daz Studio enthusiast but now I just used Carrara - I still get guilty feelings about not giving Bryce any attention. These feelings are completely irrational and its re-assuring to hear you feel the same way too but we need to allow ourselves to move on as artists. Vue (and Carrara) have got so many extra tools and abilities that they cannot be ignored forever. This may sound cheesy or possibly a bit nuts but perhaps you can look at it this way.... as a child grows up and leaves the family home, he/she becomes independent but they never stop loving and respecting the family they came from. All the best, Tom

"Burn her" cry the Bryce hoards!. Seriously though you are right to move on, I think DAZ is just happy to release Bryce with a couple of new features and pray that people will buy it because of the low price, and keep buying content from their store. Vue has a much brighter future and is a real competitor for serious proffesionals. Bryce has become a very poor cousin in comparison. joins Burpee to be burned at the stake

The life of an artist is one of change. Creativity ultimately blends and crosses over into every medium and program, too. Go with the flow and your feelings. This is a very nice cloudscape. CC
