Description

I'm still taking my intermediate Vue class and this is from lesson 4 (of 6 lessons). We worked with the cloud editor and making our own skies. I started with the bare default sky and created this. My biggest problem was getting the cloud settings and render settings to render the clouds without graininess. This was the best I could do and still had to use the 'soften' brush in PSPXI to remove some grain. For a finished image, this could use a boat, birds or far-off castle-like buildings for interest, but I was pretty happy with the overall effect and decided to share. ***Bryce comments: I have been a strong proponent of Bryce and have always been proud of the fact that I was a Bryce user and showing what Bryce is capable. I won V6I big discounts and bought it. I felt that I needed to learn to use it and have been practicing with it. The other day I went into Bryce and had to stop to think how to use some of the controls!!!!!!! I'm torn between continueing with Vue and leaving Bryce in the dust. I feel like a traitor. I don't know what to do :( I wish that Daz3D would do something with Bryce besides let it languor. They need to increase the speed at which it renders radiosity and heavy atmosphere and mats. More believable clouds and trees would be cool too. Kind weird to feel this way about a software program, lol.

I agree with all your comments, too. I have learned to think in Bryce, so when I try others, I'm lost at first! Hard to beat those awesome clouds, you have me thinking about it.

Nope! For me its Vue all the way!!! I own Bryce but rarely use it. (Got the Daz version, now but began with it way back before Daz even exsisted) Bryce was the very first Environmental creating software I ever purchased. Got it when Meta Creations owned the suite of programs. (Bryce 2.0, Poser 2 and Raydreams). I spent close to $500.00 each back in 1997. Learned them and made lots of things but once I got 3ds Max and Vue d'esprit, I would never go back. Took many years to learn the apps (Still learning) but the feature list is just too advanced to ignore! Keep making scenes with Bryce, but I'm sure as you explore Vue, you too will switch and make most scene with it instead. Great sky study, too!!

First.. this is fantastical Nancy. Seldom seen a better sky rendering. Rivals the real thing. Second.. All these graphic tools have their strengths and weaknesses. Always use the best tool for the specific job. No tool or program can do everything (yet). I don't put any graphic program on a pedestal and god knows I hate Poser. But I still use Poser because it has the best morphing power of anything I've tried. I use the bone room and cloth room a lot. I haven't tried Vue yet, but I'm betting when I do, I'll still fall back on Bryce for some some things that it will do better or easier or faster. As I said, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Anyway, bravo on the sky with hugs from Dave :^)

Great stuff, I always wondered why some vue renders come out looking a little grainy, what exactly causes that? As for Bryce, I'd concur with the "use the right tool for the right job" comment, that's the way to go in my opinion.

Well done Nancy, thats a beautiful skyscape! I like how the darker band of cloud seems to be almost drifting from the mountaintop as if it were smoke! Having made the jump from Bryce to V6i, I know exactly what you mean - I can't even remember half of the commands and yes, I feel like a traitor too because I've not made an image with it since I started with Vue about 3 or 4 months ago! In terms of render quality and for natural scenes, Vue has it all over Bryce I'm afraid, but Bryce is so much fun to use - decisions, decisions!
