Description

a very good morning to you all :o) this is a strange capture in respect of its focusing and i really dont understand what happened. focus on one thing throw the backgound out and thats it and yet here i have two seperate focus points some distance apart and the rest of the hips out of focus .whats baffling me even more is the shoot is at the back and yet its in focus .now dont get me wrong i like this shot a lot because of the way it is ,i just can`nt get the concept of how its managed to be captured like this .so if anyone can help me understand this i`d be grateful as its doing my head in :o)... have a great saturday and of course weekend my friends and thanks as always for looking mick

VERY peculiar!! Never mind, it's interesting! You need to think up some important and meaningful title!

I only can see one sharp focused part on this image, it's the branch on the left backmost side. That's absolutely normal, on one point the lens has to focus. Great shot with fantastic DOF!

That's a splendid focusing, you wanted that result or not ;O) I agree with Hendesse, it's main focus is on the left side over the small bud, you can make splendid pictures doing this. Study about DOF and you will find answers for this. I have done the same to know how to get this type of shots. (If the F Number: f/5.6 would have been about 16 the focus would be really different, maybe you were too close and the light wasn't good enough) But I still think it's a wonderful shot and I like it as it is ;O)

You've created great DOF here Mick! If you are wanting to have more of the plant in focus try switching from the "single spot focus" to the "dynamic range" mode in your camera menu (custom setting menu number 2, and choose wide centre AF area - number 3, or use manual focusing). You could also play with the aperature (f. number) if you are using a tripod and see what happens! Hope that this helps mate!

There you go Mick, Carl knows the camera, this happens with me all the time with my macro lens and it is down to spot metering or a very shallow dof, so that middle field is the only bit in focus, both the foregound and background are out of focus. You see perfect double dutch, anybody can understand it (not). It is still an excellent capture of the tiny bud and middle hip. I used to make rose hip wine, but thats another story. Bravo!!!!!

I like how the foreground isn't the focal point..make the viewer think a little

I think your camera focused on the light sources, look at the the stem of the bud and the side of the hip in focus. The three in front are to close and the one in back is in shadow. My opinion for what it is worth. It made and excellent capture. Todd

Despite the focus not being where you wanted it, it ended up being a very cool composition with that one little bud of new growth being the focal point!

Great job, mick ! sometimes auto focus dones not work fine, but it is a nice capture. Much of my photos are made on manual for better results.try on manual focus next time if you want.

My Nikon does this too. There are different settings for the type of focus as pointed out before. Also, a slight pressure on the shutter button will set the focus on whatever is in the center at the time, and then you can move your camera and take the shot. Whatever you set the focus on will be the thing in focus. :o) Hope that helps.
