Description
Here is the famous Berlin landmark that was repeatedly used in Wim Wenders' movie, "Wings of Desire." It is called the Siegessaule," which means, victory column.
Wenders' movie's original German title is "Der Himmel Uber Berlin," which translates as "The Heaven (or Sky) over Berlin."
Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry is partially credited with having inspired Wenders because he claimed angels seemed to dwell in Rilke's poetry. Wenders also relied greatly on Peter Handke, who wrote much of the dialogue, the poetic narrations, and the film's recurring poem "Song of Childhood" ("...When the child was a child, it didn't know that it was a child, everything was soulful, and all souls were one.").
See the movie. Much is lost in translation, but it's a wonderful piece of art. Don't bother with the American remake ("City of Angels") starring Nicholas Cage.

Fabelhaft! The beauty of the statue is easily missed at ground level, and I didn't have a telephoto lens when I was in Berlin. The branch and the jet contrail are both oddly appropriate, and add texture in the sense of subtly suggesting both near and far distances.
