Description

The Seattle Center, complete with Space Needle, Monorail, Coliseum, Fun Forest, Food Circus and Bubbleator, opened for business in 1962 for the Seattle World's Fair. I remember going as a small child, and being totally overwhelmed by the vastness of the place, all the people, the noise, and the agenda of the adults who dragged me along. All I was interested in was going on the rides! After the Fair closed, the grounds remained in use as a public space. Locals go there for concerts and sporting events, to visit the Science Center and the Lazarium, and to take their children on the rides. The Bite of Seattle and Bumbershoot, two huge outdoor annual festivals, are held on the grounds. While the Seattle Center has changed some over the years, the rides are still there ... at least for a little while longer ... and I had fun taking pictures of what's left when Marilyn and I were there a couple weeks ago. This is a photograph of the side of a building, with the carousel and ferris wheel reflected in its windows. On the far left you can see one leg of the Space Needle. The rows of light that appear to be hung across the sky are on the inside of the building, of course.

An awesome myriad of joyous mechanical activity reflected in this fine composition, Tara.

What a neat way to encapsulate childhood -- the distortion from the glass gives it that way-back effect. Well seen and very well captured!

Tara, this is awesome. I saw some good reflection here but none has this punch of colors and a fun attitude. Fantastic.

Excellent! I can smell the popcorn and the hotdogs and the tiny (calorie-free) donuts from here! This is such a fun shot, and so clever to have taken it the way you did. Well seen!

I would love to see a shot of this at dusk, when the lights inside the building are out and all the fairground lights are on. Maybe with both the ferris wheel and carousel turning with just that hint of motion. Not that it isn't an excellent capture as it is Tara, but I always feel the mood of a funfair is at dusk. I did a stint on the dodge-ems once when I was 17, I did think of running away with the fair at one time, I think girls made me do that, Lol. I won't go into that though.#;0). I think you have reflected chidhood very well with this image, and I am maybe thinking about teen years for the dusk image. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
