Description

This image is for my wonderful friend Nancy or known to many as npauling. Nancy is one of those rare few who are gifted in so many ways as she does brilliant work in Fractals, Photography and Mixed Mediums. A stroll through her gallery will feel like a relaxing walk in a beautiful setting with a long time friend. A while back I asked her if I could do a image and she provided me with many wonderful stories of her and her family but this one really made me smile the most. I hope you enjoy it and hope it brings smiles.Take care, Dave Lambpede (For npauling): Nancy was brought up on a mixed crop and livestock farm in the South Island of New Zealand. She loved to do the chores around the farm with her family like tending to their large group of lambs. On this day however during chores a bad storm rolled in and her parents Ken and Rosalie called for the children to begin rounding up the lambs. You see in New Zealand they don't have a lot of large barns, so in the event of a storm you put the little guys anywhere you can find room. They put lambs in the hen houses, the pigsty the implement shed and even some in the kitchen and laundry. They would then spend hours drying and feeding the lambs milk to warm them up. I tried to capture the moment when Nancy (in the raincoat) and her four sisters Sally, Helen, Susan, Janet along with their brother Robert would herd them in the house. Nancy is a wonderful artist and she also takes some breathtaking photos of New Zealand. 'Hmmmm, I haven't seen such unfettered hurly-burly since the fall of Saigon.' Looks like the lamb at the top of the stairs is the leader. He (she) seems to be barking out orders to his comrades who are obviously a bit of an unruly mob and need looking after. Especially that one being scolded by one of Nancy's sisters at the bottom of the stairs. He's looking 'doin' 20 when he gets inside. It's terrific how all the human characters have their own personas too. The little one in pink seems nearly frantic with all this chaos. While the more mature Nancy is an old hat at managing so much confusion.

You know i was just thinking last night that if we had tornados or hurricanes like in America, here in Australia and i had lots of farm animals i'd have to bring them into the house too, i'd have the horses, sheep, cows, all of them..lol This is priceless Dave, first of all i love the children, they're in charge and have become the adults to these little lambs especially the little girl with her finger pointing and her hand on her hip, i bet it's just like mums when she's being sent to bed and i love it. The lambs are adorable and for the most part have become the children in the scene, the one sitting at Nancys feet has to be her special friend and won't leave her side until she's gone into the house herself. Well thats my take on your wonderful image, thank you for bringing a smile to my face once again.

Rotfl! This is too fun! So...if there's a storm, you put them in your bed and in the bathtub? :) I love this cute depiction of what life must have been on the farm. You always show such attention to detail and so thoughtful in your composition. Thank you for this wonderful view!

Excellent composition, adorable animals and children. I love the expressions and poses--everyone has their own distinct personality--including the lambs. The umbrella is a fun accent. Well done!
