Description

I planned on doing a image for a very kind lady but think it best to release this instead considering recent events.I'll do my dedication for my friend when the focus can be on her as it should be. A while back a friend of mine Paul, aka pjlawson was a bit down and I told him this story from my youth to try and cheer him up. In all honesty I never planned on sharing it with anyone else but after thinking it over I decided now would be the perfect time to do so. This is one of those silly and embarrassing stories we all have from our past and I hope it will show people not to take things so seriously. I think we all need to learn to laugh at ourselves from time to time to keep things in perspective. Hope it gave someone a laugh, please have a great weekend and thank you my friends for your support of me in recent weeks. Dave Limbo Pony: (For My Friends) When Veronica and I were small we spent weekends at our Grandparents farm. They had horses but we were too small to ride that is until one day Grandpa brought home a pony. Neither Veronica nor I had ever been on a pony before so we were excited and nervous.Veronica went first and was placed on the pony's back and he gently walked around the yard in a small circle almost like a ride. Thinking I was in for the same treatment I was all smiles as Grandpa placed me on the Pony and then let go. To my shock the pony took off at a much faster pace like he had a purpose. To make matters worse it had no intention of taking a casual stroll around the yard with me on it, instead as if possessed it headed for a tree with low branches and scraped me off sending me crashing and screaming to the ground. Battered, bleeding and crying they told me it was a accident and took me inside to put medicine on my cuts. Mean while Veronica went for another ride and as before it was like a gentle merry go round as the pony took her around the yard. Thinking this was just a fluke and the pony was spooked Grandpa lifted me up and placed me on the pony again. In a repeat performance the darn pony made a bee line for the lowest tree it could find, scraping me off once more. Believe it or not I was talked into getting on the evil little pony a third time as Grandpa promised to lead him using the reigns. For a while it worked and I was starting to enjoy the ride. Then Grandpa let go of the reigns to see if it would be okay finally. The moment he let go the sadistic pony made a dash for the nearest low branch to send me spilling to the ground for the third and final time. As you might guess after that I never rode a pony ever again, and thankfully Grandpa got rid of that spawn of Satan.

A great, yet unfortunate, story. I've never been on a horse, and after reading this, I'm glad. :) Your advice is golden. Porky Pine (from Pogo) always said "don't take life so seriously, it ain't nohow permanent!" Welcome back, Dave!

LOL - oh, you poor thing you. This story is hysterical. I can soooo relate to this. When I was a kid I tried to ride a pony and instead of it doing a gentle ride it proceeded to stand up on its hind legs and I fell off the back of the horse. Boy, did my back and butt hurt. And YOU, poor thing, got scrapped off three times! What a plugger you are. I never rode another horse again. Guess the saying is true that you should get back on the horse and not let it defeat you. Although in your case, I'm not sure this paid off! :) On to the picture. I LOVE the vibrant colors in this and the textures are fabulous. Great forest scenery and wonderful lighting. I gotta say that the thing I really enjoy about this picture is the way you've posed that horse. He just looks so snotty - has that look about him that says 'hmmmph, I showed him!'. (You got the horse to smile just right.) Of course, the expressions on the kids' faces are priceless. Well done, my friend. Bravo!

I guess three times was enough to to be wary of this poney.... luckily you were not to damaged physically. My grandfather sold horses (poneys) and he used to have me ride them to show potential buyers how gentle they were with me on them. ahhhh the good ole' days. nice work!!

hahahahaha To funny!!!!!!!!!! Reminds me of my horse I had in the younger teens. I hated my sister ( lol ) and I think the horse felt that. Everytime my sister would try and ride my horse he would take her with her and throw her. hahahahaha Gosh I would laugh so hard. hahaha Thanks for the funny reminded. Think I will call my sister ( we love each other now ) and remind her of that. hahaha

Very cute image and story Dave. At least you tried more than once, that shows spirit my friend. I had a pony when I was young at my granddad's farm. He raised all sorts of animals. I used to visit every summer to take care of Beauty. That was her name. She was snow white. A beautiful pony that turned into a very strong and powerful horse. My granddad ended up selling her. It broke my heart. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. By the way my twin couldn't ride her. She always found a way to knock him off. Lol!

What a lovely family story Dave and the picture depicts it well if that's the right word lol! I tried to ride bareback once and bumped right back off the horses bottom and lay winded on the floor lol never again! I am sorry it hurt you at the time. Cathy xoxoxo

LOL I have met horses like that in my past too. My uncle had one that liked to do the tree thing and when walking across his field, he would nip your butt. ;o) Excellent story and image. You'll have to ask me about my first training job. :oD Hugs, Bunny

This reminded me of my daughter when she was only a child and that nearly every dog, cat, horse she ever tried to befriend would either scratch her or bite her. My friend had a pony and we were all giving her a stroke to which she seemed to enjoy, but when my daughter tried the pony bit her tummy - really strange. You can say at least Dave that you did try but try again which showed true courage when you were only young, a courage that has stayed with you. Thank goodness your grandpa made sure the pony could not do that again to you - Fantastic artwork again full of detail, thank you for all your wonderful art in your fabulous gallery, you are indeed very gifted in taking us all back to our young days. - huge hugs Jane xx
