Description
Native to the Himalaya, this beautiful flower is considered to be an invasive species in the UK and the US. (And probably many other places, as well!) Its species name is impatiens glandulifera (Giant Impatiens), and it lives up to its name, growing to about six or eight feet!
I've read that it was collected by the Kew in the mid-1800s, and it got loose in England. Easy to believe ... when the seeds are ripe, the pods explode and the seeds can shoot as far as 20 feet!

Terrific lighting, Tara!! I've seen this all along the streams,where it looks lovely. Luckily my garden is too dry for it to get a hold.

I have never come across this plant Tara, I have had several dealings however with Japanese Knotweed(Fallopia japonica), a far more agresive invasive plant. Stems may reach a maximum height of 3–4 m each growing season. This is also rampant in the USA and can be found in 39 of the 50, States. This plant of yours is much more aesthetic even though it is a weed. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!

After reading Jeffs comment we both were out among the trees Friday and we encountered lots of this! I know Jeff can't get out walking much but whenever I am out hiking I see this everywhere especially near streams and wet areas. It takes over. Nice shot, the flower is lovely on a not so nice plant! very invasive!
