Description

This was taken at Useless Bay in June when I was there with Denise (MrsRagbag) and Marilyn (beachzz). Denise posted her version of these pilings a couple of days ago. I just got CS3, and was thinking about shots I hadn't had much luck with when I opened them in PS6. This one was at the top of the list of things I wanted to work up with my new toy! It's so much fun to go out with other photographers, and this is one of the reasons why. Same shot, different creative process, different vision. The most interesting similarity, in my opinion, is that we were standing several yards away and up on a breakwater, and the amount of zoom we both used to take our shots was just about identical. I have to say, I like the bold, dark colors Denise achieved with hers!

Wow, and I like how yours came out so much closer together; and I think your colors aren't much different than what I did. On a good day (with some late afternoon or early morning sun) this particular piece of useless debris could be a whole day's shoot on its own! Excellent work, Tara!

WOW! I wish I was there! I have this thing for decaying wood...a holdover from my days of going out and catching woodlice...days which have not yet ended. Anyway, woodlice are land-living crustaceans whose nearest sea-dwelling cousins make wood look like this! All of this is to say, I love this shot, as well as it's companion piece by Denise. It brings back the days I remember of caching woodlice, breeding them, and watching them turn wood into...well...something similar to what you see here!

Excellent. I love the detailed textures so beautifully shown, from the pebbles, to the wood. I also enjoyed Chipka's comments. (WOW!)

I don't know that they are useless... none of the rotting pilings are useless. They serve a targetted purpose...to trip me every time I walk to the water because I never pay attention or expect them to be there. LOL Fabulous pov!

Is that a bit of old rope at the side Tara? or is it just a bit of seaweed? It can't have been much or I'm sure you would have taken a shot of it. Excellent capture and postwork, and using CS3 as well you lucky girl, is it much of an improvement? The should change the name of this bay to Useful Bay, you all managed to get some great photographs whilst you were there. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

Great study of these pilings( I'm sure that isn't a word we would use over here but I don't know what we call them lol) However, its a excellent shot and I was thinking of taking some B/W studies similar to this kind of work, very classy Tara!

One of the things I love about living around water is the pilings. Always got to stop and try to take pictures. Very nice and I like the old rope at the end.
