Description

Old farmhouse in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Shows design features that were caringly added sometime in the past 100 years. Now empty, grounds grown over. Last used by a local charitable organization. New homes nearby. Thanks for stopping by and all your continued support. Bill:)

I really love old and or forgotten buildings like this.. Nor sure what you were trying to do with the selective color

What a lovely little house, I bet if you go in here you can hear the history if you close your eyes, nice idea with the painted in colour.

I have always like old houses as they had character. They were not ticky tacky. I like the little balcony. Thanks for sharing.

Great picture Bill. I have seen old abandoned houses like this one in several states, and each time it made me feel wonderful that something like this exist. One tends to forget when living in a big, fast-paced city.

For its time it was a big house on the prairie. I like how you faded it to create focus, while keeping the spooky trees on the left. It can be transformed yet again to tell a Dark Night story.

Lovely shot, it shows a good structure and a sense of pathos too.

Yes, they did love it. This reminds me of a house in my gallery, not a farm house but abandoned and with a story of its own. Very nicely photographed and presented is your work here. Thanks for this one.

Two fireplaces and a fabulous upper balconey... Great view and a solitary mood. I can almost see children playing in the yard.

your graying of the trees & parts of the grass fits the delicate age of the place (in parts it feels like a daguerreotype); and the house is captured in flush sunlight, making its emptiness all the more apparent. I think that's a cross in front of it (yes?), maybe from the charity that owned it: Its presence is like a last vestige of hope, very poignant. And the lacework under the dormer and in the fence-way of the balcony of the balcony show the poignant effort to give grace to this old simple house; and can be found many places in the countryside of our land. Haunting & delicate, your title captures it all; and it's true, again, to the this vast midwest...

What a wonderful image ... I can easily imagine people living here, someone shaking rugs off the porch, standing on that balcony, just looking at the view for a minute before going off to the next chore. Evocative!!

Great picture Bill. I always wonder when seeing places like this, who lived there, where did they go, the warmth that was, the laughter and tears it once contained. Haunted in a way, not as in the story books but the house has it's own self. Note the lightning rods on the roof. Don't see them much round these parts,

Yes...I'm sure there's a tale or two hidden among those walls... Perhaps the James gang or Cole Younger stopped over.... Who knows... Excellent find and photo....

Wonderful shot, Bill! If only the walls could talk... ...as I posted on another old house posted here... go to ThomSchuyler.com and look for the song "This Old House" on the listen page. The walls did talk in that song and I think you'll really like it. It's one of my favorites and fits this image so well. :)

Or, as they say around these parts, pride of home ownership. Neat how you got the house to pop out amidst the relatively dark ambiance, Bill. The trees look a bit menacing.
