This week I did my first oil paintings in 30 years. All of them were unfinished, and since I won't be going back to that studio anymore (sigh), I decided to finish them in Photoshop. So...this is a 50-50 Oil/Photoshop painting. (I added a darker version for the fun of it: It's #2.)

a day/night version! Truly a shame you can't return to a studio. With the clarity of vision you have through the Photoshop techniques would be wonderful to see you apply it to brushstroke. The journey taken is a product of the experiences this is your element now Mark and it continues to be a pleasure to accompany you no matter what the tools.

Morning and evening twilight in the park. Trees and new growth fit your title to a "T". Very, very nice!

Mark this is so wonderful and instantly I had come to mind a beautiful gift given me long ago by a Indonesian friend. This is so colorful and full of life and to learn it was your first painting in 30 years stunned me as you have such a gift for this. Glad you finished it in photoshop and hope one day you will share with me the story behind it.

Love the bottom version, the contrast really pops the colors and design. I have to look and see what else you've posted lately that I've missed while away. cheers, tim

OHH Mark! There you go. Look what you did. An oil painting... and how beautiful it is. I am sure you had really fun. It shows clearly in this lovely painting. Would I just love, if you did more of these graceful plants, trees and bushes. You are born to do it, dont you see. You control any medium for this, so you have so many possibilities for wonderful paintings, drawings with these nature subjects. Need I say I adore these images? FAV !

Well Mark, if you enjoyed it, pop out and buy a few tubes! You only need white and the primaries, and then a few earth colours! DO IT and then we can see more!

Very beautiful impressionistic cherry blossoms; very much an early spring feel, and the textures are wonderful! Great work!

You really did a beautiful oil painting and the combination with PS goes wonderfully! You do this so well! The colours and your brush strockes(and i can see them) are just wonderful..If i had to choose between the two pannels i will not be able. Both are beautiful and very luminous and i like the contrasts so much.I think this is the beginning of your new series, for sure!! And i hope so!They balance!VERY BEAUTIFUL!Fav.

A lovely artwork. I am always struck by the intensity of spring after a white winter, with the apple blossoms and other flowering trees so vibrant. And you captured this perfectly, as well as how the blossoms cling to the branches in such delicate clusters. CC

This just f lows gently back and forth, then bam!! you give us the psychedelic version!! The top painting makes me think of cherry blossoms, which are abundant in my world at the moment. It also has that classic Asian feel, which only adds to its beauty. And the bottom one--well, what can I say but WOW~~~~ Am I having a flashback?????

ps does wonders, but only when someone picks the mouse and clicks around for a while, so, it doesnt matter how digital something digital is, because there is always someone behind doing it, i dont really see a difference between these 2 worlds, digital and traditional, both are not easy, both are fun, both need some knowledge, but most of all, both of them need us, i think. without us, the canvas remains empty :) a wonderful play from you again, mark, thanks for the smile :)

Couldn't have said it better - there's always the soul inside a finished work, and this one's truly beautiful!

What a wonderful spring-piece, Mark. I really like the thought about this, comming from oil painting. I did a lot of oil painting myself, even if it's 20 years ago. I think you gave it a billiant touch with your PS postworking. Love the motif, too... it sure has the spirit and colouring of spring. Both color versions are very beautiful, in each their own way. But i think i like the upper one, most.. it is softer.+5

You should get back to the paints as soon as you can, though the pallettes you have at your disposal you use so very well in the digital mediums, may never be the same in traditional arts, but artistic expression is always a joy in whatever medium..

This are great. I find it fascinating how different the two images look. The bottom one seems to have more shadow work. Marvelous work and I'm glad that you had a good time.

Stunning cranberry color effects in this magnificent collage, Mark! The granular textures, plus the tree-like veins, are beyond reproach.

half oils .. half PS ... that is just fantastic. The meeting of two such opposite mediums to create art is probably not much explored, I certainly haven't heard of this hybrid art being done consciously with purpose, but then again, I don't read all the cutting edge magazines to know what is being done. What I do know is that this is quite stunning. Personally, it brings home for me the years I spent in Japan, and the fact that everybody in Japan is now collectively breathing a sigh of relief as the weather warms, which during Spring, is celebrated by sitting under blossoming cherry trees, drinking beer and, if at night, observing the moon amidst sitting in piles of fallen blossoms. Ahhhhh ... memories.

These are beautiful Mark, I love the colourtones very much and the top one reminds me of my own Cherry Blossom tree. I am longing for the blossoms to flower and each day the buds swell a little more, until they will explode with an array of amazing and beautiful pink flowers. I can hardly wait for this to happen, but all too soon and after everyone praises their glory, they are but litter beneath our feet and we then complain!! Thank you for these delightful artworks, you really are an amazing artist, and even converted me to abstract art - hey now that was not supposed to happen my friend, hugs Jane xx

The first is very lovely and a good feeling of springtime. I prefer the second one for some reason. The darker color is somehow richer and more tranquil. Maybe a feeling of night falling. Both are gorgeous work.

The detail here is amazing. This is the kind of work I would expect on a miniature area... like an egg for Easter! Only someone had to apply it with the tip of a stick pin or toothpick to get the shadows and highlights just so... I love the glow from below. It is perhaps the reflected light from the lawn lamps shining at night onto these ornamental trees. It's great!
