UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

That is so interesting! I spent ages recently trying to make a plain background for a flower shot and ended up prefering the original: I can't decide with these either. i think I'd like it not to be black..not sure...and amazing that you cut round all those fiddly bits, Bill! VERY clever.
flavia49
great work!!! I like the right one!

I like the upper right for impact. The beige background, not so much.

A nice DOF on the original works for me... Cheers, Clive

Excellent Bill, sometimes certain things work across the board, as it does here!

I have to agree with others that the black background works nicely. Great work Bill!

I prefer the black background.. maybe a light burgundy background would look nice as well.
MagikUnicorn
Very Beautiful! ! !

Awesome... I like the image with it's natural background...

We all have our own ideas about what looks best--but bottom line? Each and ever one is beautiful in its own right; you let us choose our favorite and that's perfect!!

Beautiful rose. I like the photo on the left. More natural IMO.

I like the natural you could try darkening that background ( shadows and darks) still giving the natural look but presenting a more fwd.

Beautiful work...

Gosh Bill - it is almost 10 at night and I had a rough day... Now you've got me scratching my head... LOL... I kinda like the original one best...however... the others have there own merit and beauty too... Sorry - that is a bit like sitting on the fence... :)

Actually, after due deliberation, I prefer the original on the left and the one on the bottom right. I don't believe this particular specimen was bright enough to contrast well against the black background. Anyway, kudos on selectively excising the bloom, buds and leaves from the rest of the image in order to present us with this fine collage.

Natural looks best.
orig_buggy
That is really nice .....still wondering how you changed the background without screwing up the flower image ....
danapommet
Beautiful collage and you haad an excellent flower to start with. Dana

Not sure which one I like the best as it is a lovely capture. Maybe the beige background makes it stand out better but it is a close call. Excellent work.

Left. Something in the background is creating a nicer composition here. Not sure how the balance is changed, but it's not like with the aircrafts, although all are lovely.

Hmmmmm ... I think maybe in this case I would blur the natural background and darken it up a bit, then sharpen the flower to create some contrast. BUT! That isn't what you asked! LOL! The black and beige seem to be too much contrast. Of course it's all artistic preference, but that's mine! :)

I like this Bill, beige background or black. I have to learn how to do this. It would come in handy to do some aircraft pics. I like it just the way it is!

I cheated. I seen your current version first. I think it is the best, but natural works also

Mmmmmm! Black for me I think.... But overall, natural Rose is the best looking, more pure... Does that make sense? I'm a Nature guy! lol.... But of the two on the right, Black for sure... Good job... Rob.
