Description

Imagine driving through downtown Chicago traffic. You turn off the main thoroughfare onto a side street, knowing you're almost home. This area is not wholly residential, but it's a world away from honking busses and pedestrians crossing against the light. Apartments built nearly a hundred years ago line the street, beautifully maintained architectural gems that give off the scent of old money well spent. The details speak of quality, dependability, and quiet elegance. At this time of day the doorman is nearby waiting to unlock the gate for you, a comforting touch in this modern age of impersonal button-pushing access. You drive through the entrance tunnel and see the gate being closed behind you in the rear-view mirror. It's good to be home ...

Wow Tara! Was it Alfred, the butler, closing those impenetrable doors? Amazing gate you've found. My first thought was Batman's lair. I'd have to imagine being invited to dinner here since I don't think it could be home for me! Very cool shot.

Wow! You can't clinb over or under it and that big round plate prevents you from reaching around and opening in from behind. Well designed and captured. Dana

I don't know... as elegant as it seems, it also seems like being locked away in a made up world, not touching reality or being a part of anything at all. Yes plenty of security in gates and wealth, but so very isolated from what life really is all about. Fabulous shot.

This would make a nice port in the storm of city dwelling. Both photo and narrative make an A-1 unified presentation! A doorman in this day and age...very luxurious.

With all that old money it's no wonder the gate looks like a bank vault door. What a wonderful find!

NOOO--- It looks more like something OLD, as Norman Conquest´s old resident. Ok I bet none of you remember him :-) AND He was an english figure and not from Chicago LOL ! Dont pay attention to my nonsens, but I like the beautiful gate :-)
