I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

Feeling crusty?! Sea salt... thanks for the memories of pans like this near Port Elizabeth. I had forgotten about them! Great composition with all the detail in the foreground. Cheers, Clive

Way to go Carin. I've only seen salt works (desalinization plants) like this in pictures. Makes for another fascinating upload from one of your favorite areas.

Interesting! here in the States we use SALT to get rid of SNOW on the roads.

Interesting patterns in this shot, Carin, apparently not the snows of Kilimanjaro. Actually, it does look like snow that had been traversed over several times by vehicles, leaving their muddy tracks upon the field. And, living in the flatlands of Southern California, I haven't any of the white stuff to show, either.

This is certainly different. My cousin worked under ground in a salt mine under Lake Erie for over 20 years. I know about mining salt but not about finding it on the ground. :-) Cool shot.

I love this image, and I'm glad to see it in your gallery! The texture of the foreground really does look like light snowfall, and the piles of salt in the background make me do a double take!

A very neat image. Let's hope it doesn't rain there very often!
Chaosphoto
Ahah, the famous African salt mines hehe

Excelent capture with great compo.

for a shot that's cropped vertically, it has real sweep; from the 'peaks' in the background to the gradually opening-up salt deposits in the field. They open up large for us, at bottom. And yes, I thought "snow" at first (and was a little worried since you're in S.Africa!) Another fine & thoughtful shot from you, Carin. It's getting to be no surprise, too...

I was trying in one of my previous uploads to translate "soutpanne" to English, but apparently its nothing else than saltmines.... Beautiful image!!!

wonderful image!!!
decie
lol i was when i first seen the picture, snow???? nice capture and you got me.

Yes i remember seeing this when i was there. I also remember all the little un-manned stalls along the roads where you can leave some money for salt crystals and various semi precious stones.
