Description

Country of origin: Australia. Captured back on 10/27/08, at the 7th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. Much better viewed full size. The Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) Winjeel, an Aboriginal word meaning "Young Eagle," was developed to meet a 1948 Royal Australian Air Force specification for a new trainer to replace both the DeHavilland Tiger Moth and CAC Wirraway, then in service. The first prototype was flown in 1951, but due to a prolonged development period, production didn't begin until 1955. Built of stressed aluminum and with a fixed undercarriage, the Winjeel was designed with side-by-side seating, dual sets of controls, with a third seat in the rear. A total of 62 were built. Maximum speed: 220 knots/253.4 mph. Range: 550 miles with day VFR reserves. Toodles, mates, and thankx for stopping by.

I have agree, its wonderful to be able to get close to them and take such shots... Over here, you are treated like kids and the planes are gonna come alive and bit you! Thanks... Rob

Nice info of this fragile looking trainer. Gotta love the marking. The last shot is the best, almost the plane says come take a closer look at me. Interesting to see hardly anybody around it, I wonder why?

Nicel shots (again) 200 knots out of a prop drive trainer isn't too bad.
