This is a marvelous tribute and a wonderful glimpse into both the past and also your own life. I love these little snapshots; for you, it's probably a normal picture that you have somewhere in your house, but for me--all the way over here in Chicago--it's a snapshot of both history and YOUR history. Both are important, because of what you said earlier about history and how it's written by people with specific views. In THIS picture, you were with your grandfather, and there is the "real" history behind it. Some guy could write a book about war and your grandfather's role in defending this country...but he or she would never be able to tell us the "invisible" history, like what his house smelled like at Christmas or anything like that. It is something that only YOU can tell, and that is what is so intriguing about history, whether it's personal, national, or even secret. Because of who I am and the things I have come to understand about life, I am very interested in the "invisible" history of the world, or the "secret" history lived by people who were outcasts, or misunderstood, or in the case of African slaves, not even recognized as human! It's interesting that we live in a day and age in which history is being redefined: people are questioning whether the history we are taught is "right." And I think that's a good thing, because it means that in the future, pictures like THIS will mean a lot to a lot more people, and for me THAT is important. This is a perfect addition to your gallery.

Wow! Jock! this is awesome! How fantastic that you were able to see your grandfather .. do you remember him at all? What a wonderful, wonderful photo! I agree with Richard, there are no little people .. each person contributed in some way to support our soldiers, whether they knew it or not. Everyone who stayed at home to work, was a part of the support system for our soldiers. Hope your fourth was terrific!
