Description

I am still practising to paint digitally, and painted this in Photoshop CS4 using wacom intuos3. This is a handsome African Lion, so what can I say, I just love all cats whether big or small. Hope you like this everyone, it took a while to paint, and to those who visit here regularly you will notice by the background, that in fact originally he was part of 'Bastet - Egyptian Cat Goddess ' artwork, but thought he deserved the starring role on his own, so I removed him and here he is standing proud. I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge, and loved creating his amazing mane. Many thanks for your visit, and to those who have kindly commented and faved previously I appreciate it so very much. Take care my friends, and keep safe, hugs Jane xx Please zoom for painting detail, thank you x HAPPY JULY 4TH TO ALL MY AMERICAN FRIENDS!!! XX

while I've gotten to the galleries one by one, I've not answered most of the sitemails I got when my father passed. The journey between then & now was long and very silent; and even now I'm communicating in spurts followed by silence. (It was the combination of losses that led to this, as well as, of course, my father's final days.) But I will answer you, Jane, I haven't forgotten; and I was very appreciative that you thought of me at that time. As for coming back here, you've done so many new & different things, there are several places I could begin. I decided to start with this image because it's one of your paintings, which I know you've worked very hard to develop; and you've become quite a fine painter. Well I say "become," because I don't know how long you worked on straight painting, before you started posting them. But, full size, your detail here is both full & beautiful; while you still have given the lion a kind of iconic power---legs like great marble, with a kind of sculptural style to it all, making it seem both alive and monumental. You captured the full mass of the beast as well as its powerful slowness; and its characteristic peaceful gaze (I know lions can be fierce, but their gaze has the feeling of an all knowing inwardness). You captured the variations of coloring in its face; and the mane feels like a strong mass, framing him. I don't know where you are with painting today, but you've posted some beautiful examples of what I assume is a growing art for you. A powerful, peaceful and monument-like vision of a lion. And your detailing is fine & yet you sacrifice no wholeness because of it. You're obviously going in new & exciting directions, and I wish you the best with all of it. I will visit here more times in the coming days (because I leave long comments for you, I tend to do fewer per visit unfortunately). But I hope all is well with you, Jane, on all levels. I'll be in touch soon. Great to see you doing all the things you're doing now...

WOW! You are mega talented! Your attention to detail is superb! I appreciate the more traditional approach as you are practicing here. I have also gone digital (photoshop) but still draw and color the same as before. An honor to have met you here. KP
