Description
Back to Naples Beach on the west coast of Florida. This is a plover. They dart back and forth along the edge of the water and is looking for bits of food. There are a half dozen of this species and the juveniles can look very much alike. My best guess, with the help of the National Geographic Field Guide of Birds, this is a Wilson's Plover. They are about 7 3/4 inches (20 cm) long. Good to zoom!

This is a marvelous shot! The Plover is a very pretty bird and the detail and color, are excellent, but what really makes it for me is the combination of the Plover and his shadow. The shadow is so crisp and is such a wonderful basic bird shape, the bumps, smoothed out to a simple free flowing shape. Excellent capture with clean lines and wonderful composition.
