Description

Speaking to a packed audience Wednesday morning in Geneva, CERN director general Rolf Heuer confirmed that two separate teams working at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are more than 99 percent certain they've discovered the Higgs boson, aka the God particle—or at the least a brand-new particle exactly where they expected the Higgs to be. The long-sought particle may complete the standard model of physics by explaining why objects in our universe have mass—and in so doing, why galaxies, planets, and even humans have any right to exist. More than we need to know?

Fantastic image, the effects are particularly spectacular, excellent work, Seth! The more we know anything about the universe, the better it is!

I think it is very cool knowledge, however, what we do with this will really determine our worth

Incredible imagery man, awesome. I don't believe it's more than we need to know...yet anyway, until they learn how to use it to undo Matter, then it'll make The Bomb look like a Firecracker. It's probably more of an affront to Religion as it's yet another Crack in the Facade of God as an Entity. Peace

stunning collage my friend :) Although I am quite certain that we already have all the knowlegde to destroy ourselves and the earth ten times over even without a "god-particle" I am watching this with a mixture of genuine interest and amusement. Seems to me that there are lots of highly educated children playing with a new toy while they are trying to convince themselves and the world that it is the real thing forgetting it is just their pet theory. On the other hand it so far seems to be the best theory we´ve ever had and if we keep in mind that all we ever will come up with in science is a mere model, an abstraction which will always be faulty, then I think they have made an awesome discovery.

Fantastic fire effects and atmosphere to compliment your commentary regarding this news story~ As for whether it's more than we need to know, the jury's out on my end. I think that an open mind and wise discretion are the two keys with any new information, especially the kind which can do what Lenord said shudders Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst, I suppose. Excellent work and information again, Seth~ Thanks for this post.

Excellent yet forboding image. Really well done fiery figure. The lighting and apocolyptic mood is great. Personally I can never know enough. The more we know the more we understand. Knowledge is the cornerstone of self preservation. Dictatorships supress knowledge to control people. Here school budgets are cut to do the same thing as well as calling for substituting religion for science. I don't really like it being called the 'God Particle', but whatever. Science and religion don't have to be mutually exclusive either. There's probably a little of both in each other, a little yin and yang. By all means, teach religion in the class room, but teach all of them. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Budhism, Tao, Confuscionism, Animism, Wicca, you name it. Teach it all and let people decide for themselves. Maybe there's a little truth in all of it. Science for most things is globally accepted by people of all nations that believe in science and there haven't been any wars launched over a disagreement, that I know of. Debate is healthy, it shows different perspectives. I'm as excieted about the Higgs Boson as for the Curiosity landing on Mars tonight. Pure fact and knowledge is truth, whether one likes it or not. Thanks for the many provocative images and ideas you share.

Fantastic effects ! I think it was a good thing they had the proof of the Higgs Boson existence. Calling it "God's particle" is a bit exagerated! The more our knowledge of the world around us grows, the more new particles will be found...

Wow! Incredible image! The fire effects are amazing...exciting and explosive, yet thoughtful too...I wonder what he's thinking? This is a really awesome piece of art, another favorite for me. I don't think man is supposed to know the universe's secrets. I was thinking yesterday that science killed off so much of magic, but there is still some in the farflung corners of the world...we hope.

I don't believe that we can ever know too much. It is what we do with that knowledge that says something about the human race. So far we're not looking very good. Blame it on the devil, blame it on 'fallen angels' but never, ever take responsibility for our own doings! I don't believe that science and magic are mutually exclusive. Things that used to be 'magic' are now science, like medicines, alchemy, combustion, controlling light. I think the big objection to it being called 'God particle' is because of all the baggage that goes along from religion. But even so there is SOMEthing that caused all of this to become and to exist as it does. And...the particle, if it does what they say, is everywhere in everything, manifesting itself in a myriad of ways. This is more in line with Eastern philosophies of That which created it all - so as a spiritual (not religious) person, I like it. This is a very imaginitive and creative piece Seth. I'm impressed that you even gave thought to trying to portray this 'entity', and even more impressed with how you did it. Excellent!
