Description

Geese and ducks of all varieties having a grand old time, analogous to people at the beach. Captured 5/10/10, on a semi cloudy day at beautiful Legg Lake in the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte, California. ZOOM a must for full appreciation. I've got oodles and oodles of this subject matter. Ciao, baby, and have a nice day.

You should call this collage ; " CANT WE ALL GET ALONG "? This a fantastic capture of all these varieties, congregating and having a swell time. Nice post work.

That's quite an assortment of waterfowl, Harry, doing what waterfowl do. I can watch them for hours (sometimes I do!) It's fun to try and sort out their interactions. I still don't know for certain how to differentiate between ducks and geese; I'm told it's in the bill, but I can't remember what the defining factor is. I guess it only really matters to them! Excellent captures, my friend!

Street photography for the bird set! A real array of social-gathering with all the varieties of involvement, boredom, drinking, looking for their keys, god knows what. Like a big urban beach for birds. This must be a common birding place because in Chicago when tons of people are around, the birds migrate quickly. And you've got one dude stretching his wings in the bottom frame, vibrant water with beautiful reflections (love the green on top), and there's even an old popcorn box or soft drink glass floating around. Also---formal thing---you alternate the angles of the shoreline, something a montage expert would do instinctively. They must be comfortable with you, because no one looks like they're headed for Canada...Love the shots and all their birdly activity. (And Harry, re your question about "mono" for an image with blues in it: You're 100% right. We have 3 terms for photographic "mono" shots, and none of them are accurate. Mono would mean one color and nothing else. Black and Whites are rarely black and white, but rather lots and lots of grays. And Sepias range from browns to reds to grays, etc, and sepias have as many gradations as grays do. Fact is, we've grown accustomed to these terms because no one's come up with more precise alternates. "80% desaturated" would be more accurate, but that sounds too technical. So you're totally right. We all know what desaturated work is---and how complex it can be---but we don't have a popular term for it. I appreciated your comment.)
