For several months now, a disturbing trend has been emerging in the ratings given to my images. Its like this... Whenever I put up any new work, people begin to visit my gallery and start to comment and vote. Initially, all goes well, with practically all comments being positive, the ratings assigned neatly following the praise given. Suddenly, the mean ratings drop from 5.00 to something like 4.96 to 4.98, indicating the existence of a very small number of people who assigned low scores, though there are no corresponding critical comments made. After a while, the mean ratings magically climb back up to 5.00 again, though just in time to miss the deadline to make it into the best rated charts. It is all so regular that I already have a pretty good idea of who is giving out the low scores.
This has been going on systematically for quite a while now, following a very exact pattern that repeats itself flawlessly. It seems to be happening right now to my last work, with the ratings dropping mysteriously once the comments reach more or less to half of the 4th page. Lets see how it goes from here.
The interesting things are (a) the mysteriously low ratings given, (b) the complete absence of criticism in the comments following the lower grades assigned, and (c) the strange "correction" in the ratings after it is too late to make any charts.
This is upsetting not really because of the low ratings given or the exclusion from the top of the charts, for I am a big girl and can certainly take some online criticism, especially if it is positive. It is the complete lack of any comments pertaining to flaws in the work and, yet, there still being low scores given, that reeks of ill faith.
Therefore, I once again ask all my visitors to please voice their negative comments if you have them. Just don't hand out deceptive praise followed by a harsh judgement in the score given. I know that the problem is stemming from just a very small number of people, most of whom I have already identified.
Just so not leave anything unsaid, I wish you all a happy new year.

I've noticed similar occurrences on some of my images. I try not to dwell on it to much though, the ratings are all quite arbitrary anyways. And my Art is very very rarely seen anywhere near the Art Charts. I notice I tend to rate everything as 5, even if I do offer criticism. Which I guess kind of undermines the whole rating system anyways. I'd say the majority of people do this. And its the minority of newer users who give rating other than no rating or 5 and I'd expect there's no malice involved. Really what is the rating value? How much I like the image? The technical skill involved by the creator? When is it okay to rate an image with a 3? If the image isn't to my taste? If I feel the technical level isn't high enough. If the artist didn't create the majority of content used? Its just an arbitrary number, and the art charts are just fun with the main people looking at them being the people that are on them. Beautiful image here though Monica! I'd say worth a top rating whatever the measure!

I usually don't say anything or rate an image if it doesn't thrill me. I never give a low rating, because I only rate the best images. Anyway, this one is quite beautiful.:)

I could agree on just a little of everyones comments re :rating I strongly agree with the comment by westore You know because I can't do the work you do and many others I guess I don't take it so seriously ,I sometimes have little time and or I get tired easily now being on the computer ,so because it's so important to your beautiful work I will look at that much more serious from this BREATH TAKING WORK,on as you always do such great and magical ones: Merry Christmas to you and yours : PS/ You choose to remove ratings here ?? oh noooooooo please put them back on 5++++

Wonderful blue color palette, superb winter image, Monica! Personally, I think it is absurd to rate or classify works of art. Does Picasso deserves a "5" and Gauguin a "4"? Which of the two would be the first in the charts? So I unchecked the possibility to note my pictures, and I never assign notes to other artists ... this way, I have no problem with the notes! The most important is to create the images we love. Wonderful blue color palette, superb winter image, Monica!

I have encountered the same problem years ago and I have just turned off ratings so now, everything is fine ;-) You have made a superb winter scene here, the add of the doves is a fine touch and the colors are splendid ... love that outfit too and the girl expression as if she was surprised by the cold :-) A happy new year to you and your family !!!
