For several months now, a disturbing trend has been emerging in the ratings given to my images. Its like this... Whenever I put up any new work, people begin to visit my gallery and start to comment and vote. Initially, all goes well, with practically all comments being positive, the ratings assigned neatly following the praise given. Suddenly, the mean ratings drop from 5.00 to something like 4.96 to 4.98, indicating the existence of a very small number of people who assigned low scores, though there are no corresponding critical comments made. After a while, the mean ratings magically climb back up to 5.00 again, though just in time to miss the deadline to make it into the best rated charts. It is all so regular that I already have a pretty good idea of who is giving out the low scores.
This has been going on systematically for quite a while now, following a very exact pattern that repeats itself flawlessly. It seems to be happening right now to my last work, with the ratings dropping mysteriously once the comments reach more or less to half of the 4th page. Lets see how it goes from here.
The interesting things are (a) the mysteriously low ratings given, (b) the complete absence of criticism in the comments following the lower grades assigned, and (c) the strange "correction" in the ratings after it is too late to make any charts.
This is upsetting not really because of the low ratings given or the exclusion from the top of the charts, for I am a big girl and can certainly take some online criticism, especially if it is positive. It is the complete lack of any comments pertaining to flaws in the work and, yet, there still being low scores given, that reeks of ill faith.
Therefore, I once again ask all my visitors to please voice their negative comments if you have them. Just don't hand out deceptive praise followed by a harsh judgement in the score given. I know that the problem is stemming from just a very small number of people, most of whom I have already identified.
Just so not leave anything unsaid, I wish you all a happy new year.

I turned my ratings off months ago. I neither will take ratings nor give them. The system is flawed. To assign a number system of rating to Art fosters an environment that is not conducive to creativity. It's suggesting that just because one persons level of skill may be below another, their Art is lesser and therefor not worthy. The creative comments system is far more valuable than numbers, it allows interaction between artists, patrons, members. I get a case of the tail when I see mass posted cut and paste comments because all they are doing is trying to get people to come rate their art for the art charts. I personally would just rather the cut and paste commentors just stay away from my page, there is nothing of value I can glean from a cut and paste comment.

this is a beauty, Monica...i absolutely love that outfit (so much so that i hunted it down and now it's mine too) and do like how you've used a blue tint to convey the cold...great technique how you used the color of her face to draw the viewer closer to her... as for the rating system and this whole most commented, highest rating system: are any of us to be considered art critics? no, i don't think so...these are simply meaningless systems employed here at Rosity...i find them childish and perhaps suitable for grade schoolers and actually they only represent a popularity of the artist and not the quality of their work...i turned off the rating thing ages ago. also, i also can't stand comments such as the silly, thoughtless, simple one-word "beautiful" or other such nonsense, and deliberately ignore those individual's work since i know they are only seeking reciprocal comments...IMHO your work is consistently high quality, but if i were you, just turn off the rating thing--for you it will be one less thing to get aggravated about.

I see Dr Z gave Lara a beautiful new outfit for the holidays! Remarkable work, and what are ratings, I suggest that all members be educated in art appreciation and rated on their ability to critize and only then become qualified to hand out ratings to other artists. Then the ratings will actually mean something! Have a wonderful 2014 and beyond! (Talk to the programmers here and have them include someones rating in their comments, should only take 8 or 10 lines of javascript)

I have been at Rendo since 2006 and have NEVER rated, nor do I accept ratings on my own work. I do give and accept critical comments and all comments in general. In my opinion, rating does NOTHING to further art/artist/ or gallery. It DOES however turn hard work, creative work and a personal gallery AND the site galleries as a whole into nothing more then popularity contests. Which is unfortunate. This is gorgeous btw. :)

My dear friend your work keeps getting better all the time , you have set a good bar for yourself and you keep surpassing it at an incredible rate and when I get a bot saying you have posted I delight in visiting your gallery because I know I am going to view something precious and always special my friend. How any can anyone possibly feel otherwise I would think its a case of the green eyed monster! Monica don't let them spoil your happiness! just know that we who love and appreciate your talent find it a joy and consider it a privilege to view your work!! Beautiful! I don't know about your work specifically, but I have been booted out of the ratings sometimes. I mean I am there one minute and gone the next. Once and awhile, my finger will slip on the rating box but I try to always fix that. I am dyslexic and have an injured left finger from my horse. Hopefully no one is being mean.

Beautiful render and composition, Monica. Great protrait on a fantastic background... I never give rating... i stopped 3-4 years ago. Rating are always turned off, on my gallery uploads Unfortunately there are still people here, who down rate images... Some use rating as sabotage, to affect the art charts negatively.... Humans are .... humans.. for better and for worse. Happy New Year to you and yours.

Lovely image. Sorry to hear you have been the victim of underhanded tactics. It only took me a couple of visits to the "Art Charts" page to realize that it was not a list of the best art on this site but rather a list of the artists who were best at self promotion, I haven't been back to that page since about my second day on this site. I suppose anyone who sells product here would have something to gain from appearing there regularly but it's sad to think that they would stoop to such low behavior to make it happen. I hope the guilty party changes their ways but experience has taught me that they probably wont. Keep up the good work and try not to be affected by those who need to bring others down in order to raise themselves up, they are the losers not you.
