Description

*"In my end is my beginning" * Mary Stuart -------- black pencil 2b and 4b on thick paper a4 format, from these stage 1, stage 2, stage 3.Coloured pencils over the 3d stage, with wax pencils for the walls and floors.Total time aprox 1 hour and halffor November's Theme "Chiaroscuro" ---------- This piece subject homages Serious's requests to me of creating a piece involving the former Queen of Scotland Maria Stuart's death. The literary tragedies about her that interested me since young age are those of Vittorio Alfieri and the one of Schiller, but an historical reconstruction of her bold and dramathic life filled with passion, blood and intensity can be found here. I deeply enjoyed the theme for this month, and out from it I have certainly learnt better about the importance of chiaroscuro for atmospheres and realism in artworks but as you see especially in this piece, I still linked to a not fully realistic style, due I guess to my love for theater and symbologies, that I always fill all my pieces with (those who know me enough to discuss with me of my creations know even the smallest of touches has a sense in what I do). Sadly this coloured version suffers from the low quality of the scanning, determined mostly by the not regular grainy effect the wax pencils over the chiaroscuro forcedly cause. But I hope you can feel at least the atmosphere of the scene... I thank all member in 2D Forum for providing each month awesome inputs and advices to let hobbists like me not only amuse themselves, but for challengin us the most towards improving as the amusing exchanges go on. THANX Cam&the Crew!!! Next piece will be a portrait of a STUNNINGLY beautiful lady who's a member here, hsteel.Watch out on December 2nd(also watch out her artworks.. trust my advice, you won't be disappointed) and thanx for the constant support. Hugs :) :) :)

hobbyist? you know you are too talented to be called that, lovely illustration of the Queen, i am sure the scanner did not do it justice, but from what i can see, it's a wonderful, expressive piece coming out of the shadow :] ...i liked seeing the stages of your work & the refresher on the historical background to this piece too

Very dark and without hope... Underlined by the loss of depth in the perspective construction...

I find the stair case railings to be exceptionally well done with minimum of strokes giving a maximun numbers of verticle railings. The front of her dress is also of note but I especially like the expression on Mary's face..very intense.

You indeed got the colors sparkle here! I don't think scanners like wax pencils, but to me it is great!I will read the story, even if there is some small reminiscence in the back of my head. I do like your history and mythologi explanations along with your work.

I'll not be satisfied til I see her head in a basket;)Lol,sick humor I know but most appropriate for such a tragic period in history when people seemed to enjoy the lopping off of a head to entertain themselves!Beautifully done m'lady and the yellow pallor upon her face really sets the mood;)

Having just read many medieval accounts of the English kings, queens and nobles I see her going to Jack Ketch as he decides what of her finery to sell to bidders after and how to keep the corpse for himself. Then the macbre fire that pursues the march up the steps which she is stealing one last glance away from can be felt as a corrupt reasoning.
