Still exploring ET016 - but this time our explorers are investigating some wreckages that were found on Southern Desert, in Megaurchins Canyon. On the left, we see five megaurchins - those big animals are as large as a cow but are less agile than a snail - for almost all their life they lie on rocks and only from time-to time agitate their 4m long, sticky tentacles which act as a "fly paper". Their daily haul is not very impressive - about 1,5 kg of small flying animals, but considering megaurchins very slow metabolism & ability to photosynthesize organic compounds - it is enough for survive. To devour its pray, megaurchin simply lick up his tentacles.
It's only just after the birth that small warm like megaurchins larvae travels several kilometers looking for adequate rock, on which it will usually stay for its whole life.

Next time perhaps a report about wreckages would be ready - actually it is only known, that those are remaining of small landing ship and its crew. What is the most interesting is that this ship was not build by ET016 civilization...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only minor postwork was done to this scene - gamma adjustement, low pas filter, sharpnes enhancement &few shadows adjustement.
Sky is original Vue sky (no bitmap), the same for all textures - they are procedural(except megaurchins head & spikes, explorers suites & leafs)
(originaly non-postworked wersion was post here, but i decided to replace it by this "boosted" version. Original version in reduced size is still available on my website)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything except Megaurchins and Explorers figures was build in Vue Pro.
Ships wrecks were assemble from primitives, alien plants were model using Vue Pro Plant Editor.
Megaurchins were set up in Poser - I used great & easy to pose Tentacle Hair (made by Ajax) & some horns from "Monster Parts set" - Body was made in Cinema 4D, Explorers are Poser 2 low res figures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TUTORIAL AVAILABLE NOW !!!
You can learn how I modelled Megaurchins Rock - it was assembled from several Vue terrins.
Please, if you have any comments, questions or proposals concerning this tutorial, don't hesitate to post them.

This is my first scene MADE IN EUROPEAN UNION

Hope you would like it :-)))

Cheers!

Robert

Incredible work - as usual. Makes me want to make Sci-fi images, too. And I agree more or less to your opinion on Bryce, with this addition: Bryce is much more useful for modelling, and renders soft shadows, true ambience and DOF much, much better than Vue (no matter how high the setting), but at a price of insanely - and thus not really feasible - long render-times. And, oh yes - a VOTE

Yes! Yet another image overflowing with incredible detail and imagination. I would love to see a simple fly-through animation of some of your scenes!

Robert as usual I'm Speechless. the quality the depth and the perception required for something like this puts us all to shame. Astounding V

I found this image to be really nice when scrolling to the right (scrolling on my 1600x1200 sized windows !) and saw the right part of the image. I think this part really makes the image come to live and as a terrain-guy I certainly like the rocks ! Excellent job !

Thanks Liewald - but don't exaggerate - it's true, that I care for details & rendering quality - but there are hundreds other people at Renderosity, who produce quantities of excellent masterpieces, who have much better ideas, whose technique is better than mine. There is also the other side - Perhaps some people should use more self-critics while preparing to post a picture. What is the point to display every scrap produced after 5 minutes of tampering with a 3D application? I made much more renders than you can see in my gallery, but I am aware, that only a few are good enough, to be enjoyable for my viewers. Only those are displayed :-)))

Great setting, Robert. I love the feeling of this one. A bit like old Science Fiction movies and covers. The quality of the picture is, like always, perfect.

Great render of a highly imaginative scene - love it. I just wish I had a super-wide monitor to be able to view the scene as a whole, though it is almost a voyage of discovery panning across from left ot right. One of your best. Sorry the vote is a tad late.
