Description

*** this image is for Elena *** Mostly cubes, so they are... but what wonders you can play (make) using them... :) _____ Again, 3D is that wonderful thing that allows me to bring my dreams to life. This one, a Steinway Grand, is one of my wildest. Very basic modeling (mostly cubes, indeed), two area lights, mental ray phisical DOF, layered shaders for the keys and the Steinway Logo. _____ Still learning Maya, so every criticism and comments on how to improve my skills is really welcome. Thanks for stopping by. And, by the way, thanks a lot for all the support you gave me with the incredible AOM thingie last month. :) Couldn't have been possible without you, you already know it. Have a wonderful week and May Your Renders Be Short. Stefano :) _____

Soooooooo beautiful! I love the faint reflections of the logo on the white keys, and the excellent POV and focus. As always, your lighting is perfection!

I happen to own a grand piano and I'm looking at this back and forth between the real thing. So... which one's which again?

The blurry focus effect really gives it a terrific sense of realism. Like how the keys are not sharp edge, but slightly rounded as the real things are. Truely excellent!

All I know about Maya is that it's terribly difficult to use, but gives the best 3d results. This image to me looks so very precise... I am sure not the best one to advice you.. but I like it from my core :)

beautiful... but... the end of the black notes should be slightly slanted, and this may just be my eyes playing tricks on me but the white notes seem to be connected and that is an EXTREMELY short peice of paper to fit that way on the notes (usually if i forget some peice on the notes it falls off because the paper is too long)... THough i must say the image is absolutely stunning.... (PS. Sorry for all the criticism, I just hope it helps improve your next image :) )

@Skip2myloo_skayt : You're absolutely right. The reference pictures I have confirm your point of view: the black keys are really much more slanted inward that the way I have depicted them. You know, there was something I couldn't quite put my finger on that bothered me, and that's it. It's almost incredible, because I play piano since I was a kid, but this escaped me totally, so thank you a lot for pointing it out. As for the sheet music, you're right again, but this time it was a sort of "artist's choice": I wanted the music sheet to be wholly in the picture, so I voluntarily resized it to fit in. I really want to thank you for taking your time to point this out.

All I know about Maya is that it is a fabulous 3d application ,It looks very dificult and is extremely expensive ,so I can't help you here. What I do know is that I like this very much.I think the composition and the dof are realy cool and I like the clean and realistic look. The image is as fabulous as Maya.A vote for Maya and a vote for DC.You rock man.
