BIO
My name is Todd Shearer and I live in the US, on the east coast, near Washington D.C., but don't hold that against me, it's not my fault...really. I live with my significant other and two beagles, Hephaestus (aka Heph) and Nyarlethotep (aka Nya). and the ghost of Yogsothoth (aka Yogdog) And yes, feel free to make the Indianna Jones joke about my being named after the dog. I am presently one of the great unemployed masses, trying to make my way into being able to almost support myself with my art and writing. I try not to be a one trick pony, doing a landscape here, a portrait there, a pin-up over next to the wall...yeah, there in the corner...or whatever else comes to mind. I read and write mostly horror, though I make a point of forcing myself to read at least one classic "should be read" book every four or five cheesey horror or fantasy novels I read. Presently I am working on Dante's Divine Comedy and coming to regret the choice. My favorite artists are Vermeer, Brughel, Barry Windsor-Smith, Bernie Wrightson and Thom Canty... talk about ecclectic. My favorite writers are Stephen King (there's a surprise), H.P. Lovecraft, James Michener and Douglas Adams. Anything else you wish to know? Feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. Yerz, Yogdog

Yes um, that shade of green is just, are you kidding!!! what criticism could one possibly give about this image. Its absolutely stunning work. I love the view from behind the reeds and that tentacle wielding beast is going to get its ass kicked, I'm sure. Brilliant render:)VOTE CONAN!!!
RJC
This illusion of being under water is flawless, and probably the most realistic depiction of a submerged scene that I have ever seen in Bryce. The bubbles, light gel and haze are perfectly executed. That aside, the rest of the image is just as remarkable. Very dynamic and realistic depiction of a vey kool character. 5 stars! VOTE

A dramatic composition & very convincing underwater scene. Great work.

The Underwater effect is very easy. It is a fairly dense Bryce haze in green. The light gel that RJC refered to is non existant. The effect is created by making a water plane (non-volumetric) and moving it above the scene (This also gives surface reflections if the water surface is low enough to be seen through the haze) and sticking in 15 or 20 volumetric lights (in this case cylinders) that pass through the water plane and into the scene. This adds to the murky water effect too. The water surface breaks the smooth volumetric lights up into dozens of smaller shafts of light....it was a lucky accident. -yerz, Yogdog

The render made me think of Conan before I read the text. Really like the spear as well.

Thing is, though, the sunbeams look like they just stop at some point, instead of fading off nicely into the background through the haze. Do you think it might look better if they just started off screen? But this is excellently amazingly superb. I love your lighting and it looks very "underwaterish". Or it could just be a very very foggy day on a distant alien world... =)
