Description

Lately, I've been cursing the stormy South Florida skies for not letting me get any good night shots of the big full moon we have right now and other neat celestial phenomenon. However, when the storms do break, you sometimes get a rare opportunity for some dramatic cloud shots. Just before sunset last week, the clouds overhead cleared a bit and the most bizarre light started emanating through our home's windows. I grabbed my camera and stepped outside into a surreal landscape. The golden light was intense, and contrasted with both the dark and lit up cloudbanks. To the north, the sun was reflecting off a small section of clouds and lighting it up theatrically. It reminded me a bit of some scenes from the movie Independence Day, and seemed like a good photo to post in anticipation of Steven Spielberg's upcoming War of the Worlds. And capturing the Belt of Venus along the horizon was an extra bonus. :') What does it make you think of? Thanks for visiting and for your comments. ----- Olympus C8080 & PhotoshopCS

You know, this is exactly what I wish we had out here in LA from time to time. I just love weather. Staying indoors with the family, watching a movie while it's pouring outside....I guess to much of anything would eventually get old though. At least I get a chance to enjoy it through your pictures. Right now here in LA it is 65 degrees (dry heat) at 8:42 am and expected to reach 85 today. There are also scattered fires about Southern California. Who said we didn't have seasons! Our fire season officially begins on the solstice. Anyways, Great shot and beautiful moment. KP

It makes me think that the light in this scene is totally magnificent and that U should get a percentage for advertising for Spielberg like that! ;P

An apocalyptic warning or revelation of a new dawn is the feeling I receive from viewing this image. Colours are excellent and you may want to use this sky again in another photograph as a backdrop. Just a thought since it is so movie like.

They don't scare me... As I already said to the Commander, tell them to come and visit me in my house... We'll have a drink, chat about a few things, and, believe me, they cannot be worse than the guys working in our ministries. (Excellent shot!!!)

Anyway, your image is STUNNING!!!! love the sky, the lighting, and the overall mood. What does it remind me of? dunno why, but i think about houseboats...what it would be like to live on one. well, these house ARE practically on the water!!! LOL! yeah...when i look at this i think of what it would be like to spend my life living right there on the water...looking up at the sky at night, feeling the rythymic rocking of the boat, seeing all the gorgeous lights, hearing the waves...sigh....hey...thanks...enjoyed this one a lot!!!! excellent photography!!!!!!! :)
