Thats the worst case of 5'o'clock shadow I've ever seen :D

The whole deal...I was fully stoked when P5 came out...then the big letdown...but I kept chugging away...chugging away...chugging away... I've found myself getting attached to some of the changes, such as the mouse scrolling, the ability to actually see the dials and the words :) The lighting is so much better. Applying bump maps is so much easier.... I could go on and on...I really hadn't thought about it much until tonight, when I went back to P4..... There is a huge difference beyween the 2 versions.

Dave-So I think what happened with your render is the bump map for the head isn't assigned properly. This happens from time to time. But hey! Use whatever you want. It's all good. I have P5 but prefer to use P4 until I can get my system updated with something faster than 500mhz processor. Hopefully, I can get that with my Christmas money this year...
V3 is awesome. The p4 renders here look real nice :) I think the comment about incorrect bump alignment is right. It looks much better in the second render...plus the 5oclock shadow was just plugging in the MATs and rendering.... The bumps came in at 70% which is way too high. In p5 they don't attach to the BUMP channel, but to the Bump Gradient channel, which subdues them.... I turned the bumps off in the comparison render, although her neck is messed up in the P4 render, and neither look as good as the images from Rockets, Laurie, serpentis, and Marque. As far as V3, there is no question that she is a model with a thousand different faces...

P4 has an old but sometimes known Bump map render bug with some video cards. Has happened to me where I get spots with some bump settings.

Mine is set with a camera focal length of 110 Papu. Looks great if you ask me

Sure, Serpentis, it does :) 105 mm is what I personally am used to. Here's some discussion about the subject : photo.net : What's the ideal focal length for a portrait lens?.
Depending on where the subject lies I use different focal lengths. For portraits I've been using 110 for a while and it works pretty good for me. I might have to try 105 once and see if it makes that much of a difference. :) Reading the link now.

P5 comes in at 50mm... What's real strange, it doesn't change the look if you're at 38, 50, or 105 as Poser 4 does. Poser 4 actually completely distorts the head at 38mm, looks like a completely different person.

I still say the default the ears comes in at makes her look like Dumbo no matter what LOL and Papu...trust me, I NEVER NEVER NEVER use the default 38mm my god it's aweful! ALthough when I first got Poser I didn't realize and looking back on my old images, my older ones look like aliens to me now ROFLMAO

I bought Sisters from dalinise when it first came out...they distorted worse than anything I had ever seen... LOL :) Without doubt the most alien, weird characters I had ever seen.... We had several conversations about that...finally realized it was the focal length...it was the first time that was brought to my attention :)

Serpentis, same here, I didn't have a clue about focal length (or anyhing else for that matter ;) when I first started with Poser. Don't even want to look at my early images anymore (also, I hadn't realized you could turn IK off and not get the characters legs in such a mess ... or that you could conform clothes - I tried to manually pose them on the character at first which was a bit hard :D )
Papu, it took me months to realize there was an EASY way to conform clothing! I can't believe I was such an idiot back then. Then again, my brother and sister-in-law are starting with Poser and that was the first thing I showed them ROFLMAO. Ahh, how the mighty do teach ;) Trust me, I think I've deleted all my early works. I couldn't stand to look at them they were so damned bad. The camera focal length really makes a huge difference in how your render comes out. I won't even use the default 38mm for full body shots any longer it makes their face look really weird. I guess that's why we're always learning new stuff eh?
