"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
Previous (fully working) releases of Pixels3D are regularly put on the cover cds of mags in the uk (Digit/Macworld etc) - dunno what the latest freebie version is - maybe it'll say on their site? I've used a very old version on an ancient 7500/100 Pmac - very slow, but some interesting tools - the files also seemed to export fine into other things I was using at the time. Well worth investigating imo. I now use Wings (on a pc) and also suggest you should try this - totally different way of working to P3D - but excellent (imo) for modelling many types of objects - and very easy to pick up the workflow. pp
I've got a free copy of Pixels 3.7, it's capable of excellent results but I'm finding it tricky to get decent results. This is probably true of all really good 3d packages, you need to really study them to get the best results and they're all complicated! It doesn't run too well in classic but it's OK. They have got an OSX version now, their website is worth a look. By the way, Wings doesn't have a renderer so you'll need to use Bryce or something else. Don't let that put you off though it's really an excellent modeller. If you then find you want something more complex I'd look at Cinema or Lightwave. If money isn't important maybe Maya. These are all complex apps though and will take a LOT of study. Cinema is probably the easiest to get to grips with. Baz
You can do a heck of a lot with Electric Image, which is mainly a mac platform, though it is ported for PC. You'll need amorphium to convert the EI models to obj, etc, and Amorphium is handy for organic type f/x tools. The real deal is at www.universe3d.com and the older version which is nearly the same modeler as the current is way cheap at www.dvgarage.com I have an interface screenshot at www.annsartgallery.com/ei.html

wut modeller would ppl most recommend for a real newb? i'm using bryce, but the boolean subtraction can get a little out of hand (such as 13 objects just to put a curve on a object). i'm on a mac, so whino.. i mean rhino isnt compatable, and im not sure if wings is, either. time isnt important, and im a great money saver, so cost doesnt matter.
