hi i just bought Vue d'espirit and started to learn. when i tryed to import a poser file i got these message: "serial number invalid" what can i do and why this happens? thanks

Ms_Outlaw ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 12:43 AM

You're using poser 5? You need to have poser 4. You'll find a lot of threads here about that.

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 1:41 AM

And if you have Poser 4, close it before you import a pz3 file into Vue. Guitta

nimesh ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 3:03 PM

it still dont work. i have updated poser. do you think it is because of that?

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 3:11 PM

Do you have Poser 4? or 5? Do you have a PC or a MAC? Updating Poser cannot be the problem. We all have updated Poser4. Make sure you have Vue 4.12!!! If necessary uninstall and re-install Vue (if PC). And tell us more. We will find a way for you:-) Guitta

nimesh ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 3:14 PM

poser 4 and thinking of install p5-PC

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 3:17 PM

Forget Poser 5 with Vue. Vue 4.12????? If you don't give exact indication it is difficult to help.

nimesh ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 3:30 PM

can't download any update.the serial number is not acecteble.

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 4:30 PM

This means that you have an illegal copy of Vue. You only can download with a purchased Vue version and Poser will NEVER work with an illegal copy of Vue.

Djeser ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 11:20 PM

If you're having problems with Vue serial number, and your copy of Vue is legal, contact E-on software directly. Their website is http://www.e-onsoftware.com/ They are very helpful. All Vue updates and extras are only available to legally registered users of Vue.

Gebe, it is unwise to accuse someone of having an illegal copy of ANY software without knowing all of the facts. You of course could mention that that may be one of the reasons for him/her having a problem - but there could be other issues here as well. Imagine if you had an honest problem and someone accused you of having an illegal copy? It doesn't feel very good and immediately you're put on the defensive. If this person has a legitimate problem, upon seeing your post I would think twice about posting ANYTHING to the forum. Think before posting - Always good advice!

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 12:55 PM

megalodon, when you have such a problem, you generally write to the software maker, not in a forum:-). If the person (nimesh) has a legitime problem, I will apologize for sure:-)

megalodon ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 1:16 PM

Gebe, the first line that nimesh wrote was: "hi i just bought Vue d'espirit and started to learn." So why not take that at face value? And I think that you will agree that not ALL people think in the same way as you (or I) do. Perhaps I would think that other people in this forum have had the same problems? Why wouldn't I write in to the forum to find out? Again, do not assume that everyone thinks as you do. You should FIRST assume that nimesh does have a legitimate problem and no matter what obstacles he/she comes to and elaborates on that it is a legitimate problem. As Djeser wrote above, he/she should e-mail E-on. That's good advice. Alluring to the possibility of impropriety is not good form.

This doesn't really have to do with Vue, as much as it does with Poser in my opionion. "when i tryed to import a poser file i got these message: "serial number invalid" what can i do and why this happens?" he/she is trying to import a poser file and it is telling him/her that it can't, to assume that they may have an illegal copy is justified if all the other options given above don't work. He/She may not know they have an illegal copy, if indeed it is. Many people buy computers that others have left software on them. I don't think Guitta was accusing anyone of theft, just notifying them that they may have an illegal copy. Because he/she said "can't download any update.the serial number is not acecteble". Only resonable deduction. Sharen

MightyPete ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 2:12 PM

There is a different problem too. There is a upgrade that needs to be installed into Poser if you bought your Poser from Metacreations. There serial number does not work. The upgrade patch from who ever owns it now fixes that glitch.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 2:19 PM

Yes, that is correct. Sharen

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 2:23 PM

See #4, he has already updated Poser.

megalodon ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 2:37 PM

Sams3D - You said: "I don't think Guitta was accusing anyone of theft, just notifying them that they may have an illegal copy." Gebe specifically stated: "This means that you have an illegal copy of Vue." She may not be accusing the person that THEY stole it but that it was definitely an illegal copy nonetheless. This is not as you say "Only resonable deduction." It would be reasonable deduction only after everything else has been ruled out and there are apparently several other explanations - as MightyPete suggested above there may be other factors at work. My point is, no one should accuse someone of having an illegal copy (stolen or not) without first exhausting ALL possibilities. Gebe, did you ask him which version of Poser he/she is upgraded to? Exhaust ALL possibilities BEFORE condemning. perhaps he/she was given an older update? Who knows? But ask FIRST! You are the forum moderator and I have seen that you are generally much more even-handed. My reason for my diatribe is that I have been accused of using warez - I DO NOT appreciate it when I purchase software and go into a forum asking questions and are then accused of using an illegal copy because someone jumps to conclusions. I doubt it that anyone would like that. Choosing WHEN to say something and HOW it is said is VERY important.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 2:53 PM

Megalodon, of course you are correct about choosing When to say something and How it is said. I am sorry if you are taking this so much to heart and I can understand your strong feelings given the circumstances of your past. It is a bad feeling being accused of something, when you are not guilty. But I do feel that Guitta has tried to exhaust all options, as Guitta also pointed out what MightyPete said, read #4. And being that Guitta is a forum moderator I feel she may have an upper hand on somethings more then we who come to the forum. She deals with this more often then we do and maybe able to see things in Posts that we do not. I have every confidence in her abilities and if you read #12, Guitta has covered her bases and I respect her for that. Sharen

megalodon ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 4:49 PM

Sams3D - I respectfully disagree. Being a forum moderator does not preclude knowledge and thinking that she can read something into someones post is fantasy. Many of of have been here for quite some time and some are actually even older than Guitta! :) Perhaps if Guitta had been labeled a software thief in the past by someone saying that she had illegal software on a forum she would understand better. Unfortunately the "covering of bases" was done AFTER the mention of the illegal copy. As I had said above, I would ask a forum the same question thinking that someone in the forum may have had the same problem with the software. Why would it be wrong to check on a forum such as this with that sort of problem? After exhausting every avenue BEFORE suggesting illegal copy, then you suggest e-mailing the software vendor. Instead of saying that the copy IS illegal, wait for others in the forum to voice their opinions and experiences FIRST. It's been less than two days. Yes, I have taken this to heart - but I think not wrongly either. Be that as it may, that's all I'll say on this thread. Dave
